again, it's not an issue: shinya's bike check for phoenix

(via phoenix)
phoenix recently caught up with their rider shinya yamamoto for a look at his setup. i think this is the bb17 charmer 700c which has a bb drop, but as you can see, that doesnt hinder him from boosting. it features phoenix's "upside down upside down cross" fork (that i really want), and the ultra rad USA straps. check out more here.

the other fixie factory: phillip williams interview

(via the other fixie factory)
i think people forget that there was a fixie factory site that was french since the long beach crew kinda took over that name. i know that shark has come up alot recently- he won that chrome contest, he got on destroy, he dropped on the the sickest edits of winter. this one popped up yesterday but i wanted to space it out; fixie factory did a quick interview with phil which gives you an idea of where he's coming from. he's only been riding for less than a year!

bb drop dont hinder me: nasty's signature

(via wlinedistro)
with all the talk about negative bottom bracket drop and 26's being the future or whatever, it's kinda nice to see a bike that has neither for a rider who pretty much defines flatland. everyone knows who nasty is, and his setup is pretty much built towards what his style of riding is all about. looks like that rear wheel is pretty slammed, and everything looks pretty tight for a 700c setup. been a while since we've seen an edit from him but i'm sure one will pop up soon. see more of the bike over at wline.

across the atlantic now: johnny o'byrne for eighthinch

Johnny Eight Inch Edit from Velo Theft on Vimeo.
alot of people overlook riding like this, but i for one like this stuff. johnny's been riding for eighthinch for quite some time, primarily for polo. however the dude does dabble in fixed freestyle hitting us with some "old school" track tricks. trackstand variations and footjam tails for the win! by the way, looks like he's running the soon to come bueller wheel on the rear and the all steel freestyle chainwheel....

going back over the pacific in hong kong: flwrider double O championships

Double O Championship / HEAT 1 from FlwriderTV on Vimeo.
going all over the place today. flwrider recently held a criterium race in hong kong, and it looks like it went off well. damn that is alot of aluminum and carbon going at a fast pace. these guys are hella mobbing, and i'm guessing the road conditions were pretty smooth... good to see the fast bikes thriving there.

jmik

and then we go north: shark & megalodon

Phillip Williams - Megalodon from Sam Clark on Vimeo.
it's a plethora of grindage in this one from philip williams. this guy is non-stop- this month alone he came out with a ton of stuff. this one is full of grinds in every combination you can think of. over the rail to double peg, over the rail to a smith (NUTS), double peg to hang over, feeble to smith, and a huge feeble to HARD at the end. doing big things on destroy.

jmik

and then in seoul: SFG x T-level

RIDE SEOUL | SFG & T-LEVEL Collaboration backpack from VM PROJECT on Vimeo.
T-level is based in south korea, and seoul is the capital city of south korea so it was only a matter of time to see a collaboration between T-level and SFG come out of the wood work. my dad's been back and forth to seoul for business, and whenever he's not working he told me he's seen a handful of riders all running fast street setups. that being said, i think that's why the bag set-up looks very DIY, and made for urban assault. looks pretty sweet.

jmik

meanwhile in taiwan: 2 from proud cat

lets get this cleared up, "shocks" is the apparel part of proud cat, and invader is the fixed freestyle line of the company. despite the confusion, these 2 vids show off the capabilities of their fixed freestyle line pretty well- lots of good flatland stuff in both. i recall TTv not knowing if this stuff is available here- this stuff is available in the states, contact rep anson xue for more!

jmik

work in progress: iminusd's riders page

Photobucket
iminusd opened up their full website yesterday, and i think it's looks hella nice. one part of the website that really popped out for me was the rider page. as of right now, ed, jeffy d, kenny, and anthony have their profiles up which have a bike check and a short interview on each. look! i took kenny's picture! RAAAAAAAD.

always a local local: chris sims quick clip

chris used to ride with me and my homies up here in chico when he used to go to school here. even though he just started riding fixed around 2 years ago on a POS torker, dude progressed at an astonishing rate, and now makes me look like an ancient relic. here he is hitting a feeble to fakie doublepeg, halfcab out!

jmik

it dont mean follow friday: FF power hour IV

ff power hour 4 from antonyoxxx on Vimeo.
if you dont like the fixie factory on facebook yet, you should. my homies down in the southern part of the golden state have wayyyyy more fans than 213. joe and antonyo are just pumping out power hours, and it's nothing but fun. anyone want to tell me what the hell that antonyo did at 1:18? because that was tech as hell. and then you got joe who's 180ing over a rail at 2:29. both dudes have different steez, but the combination results in a pretty sweet edit. keep them coming guys....

really impressed: KLIFGT '11

This is who we are, and this is what we do. KLIFGT '11 from shamin sahrum on Vimeo.
this one has been making the rounds and i'm extremely impressed on how organized this event was. the kuala lampur international fixed gear tournament looked like it went off with a bunch of people there and a covered events that involved a slew of different aspects of fixed gear culture. we already know clary, josh, rudy, and colin went over there, but i didnt know grime's dew sippawit made it out there! that guy's a beast! anyway, looked like a ton of fun, and i really have to applaud the organizers of that one.

jmik

barbed wire: szechoen chicken

Szechoen Chicken from Charles Schoen on Vimeo.
been a quick minute since we've seen something from thunderkill's charles shoen, and this one has footage from saeptermber to november. let it be known that this is the stuff i love to see- tight spots, creative, and fast riding. barbed wire thread to drop was pretty insance considering where the barbed wire was, and the tiregrab into the stairs at :19 looked sick. hopefully we see more from the dude soon.

F. Off. And. Die: evan service for velo city bags

FOAD  of salt lake city, utah is the shit right now, and i'm a big fan evan service's riding. dude is a beast and he's got a smooth killer style. he recently got picked up by another salt lake city's velo city bags to run their straps. they got a little interview right here. peep the tight lines at :25 and :45, and the sweet curved double peg at :57. like i said, keep an out out for this dude.

high seaposts and bigass chainrings: eugene & massan

(via eugenehood)
lets get it straight, eugene and massan are huge influences on me and these are probably 2 of the best looking builds ever in the history of the friggin earth. both massan's low pursuit and eugene's '93 cdale are both made in america, have tall ass seatposts, and have bigass chainrings. these, my friends, are hella BUILT.

meanwhile in surabaya: dignity bikes' 29er

(via 19tooth)
i made a comment on twitter about indonesia and malaysia blowing up in fixed gear activity and it got retweeted    a bunch of times. so for all my readers out there- thanks! one of the dudes that really puts me on the map out there is 19 tooth, which posted this one not that long ago. at first glance it looks like a 26", but i knew it was a 29" right when i looked at the tires. i did some digging and found that dignity is a bike frame builder out in that area, and this is running dual 29 x 2.2's. those tires are bloody expensive, and this setup makes me want to see more!

jmik

drop bars: tyler's warming up

Warm Up from Tyler Johnson on Vimeo.
holy crap tyler's SKYLMT setup is looking good, and we all know he's tearing shit up with it. this is another example of that- hop up, drop bar (not bombs HA.) into wheelie and.... loop out. i seriously want to know where this one was going!

jmik

i'm back and soon they will be: iminusd 2.0

(via imd)
now that i'm back from my little holiday, i can get back to the groove of things. after all the black friday stuff, its only right to post more sales. our friends at iminusd have revamped their website (at least the blog part for now), and on monday they'll be opening their webstore back up. what better way to stretch out the servers by having a cyber monday sale? keep posted for midnight, and you'll be rewarded.

see what they did there?: blaq friday

This is probably one of the more difficult posts I've ever done because I'm currently on a moving vehicle, typing this on my blackberry. I forgot to post this one up before I left so this is a consequnce... Our friends at blaq are having a sale as well, and of course it's aptly named "BLAQ friday". Smart, unlike me who had to enter html via a small keypad. They're docking odd 25 percent off their whole line up so get to it!

bomb shells and carcasses: destroy sale

(via destroy)
this one you have to jump on, not only because they're fam, but because this is pretty intense. the masochist v2's are usually $500, bars at $60, hubs at $65 and klab sprockets go for $70. so looking at what's up there, that's something to not sleep on ESPECIALLY THE FRAMES. get to it tonight.

jmik

da pwesha, it is awww: fixie factory power hour III

ff power hour 3 from antonyoxxx on Vimeo.
the fixie factory is awesome, and when they're not making my photos look extra intense (and giving me the awkward feeling of thinking everyone is nuts for not seeing how photoshopped they were), they're out riding in the night. they make friends with cops, they do handlebar stalls, they yell "look what i can do" in the air, and the pwesha is awwwww. watch it.

jmik

(chain) wheels of steel: spike parts Y6 sprocket available now

(via bb17)
full chromoly sprockets are most likely going to become the next thing, and i've been following this thing since it's been an idea. spike is bombarding the market with stuff, and this is the next thing to release. i thought it would look a little bland, but seeing it mounted quickly changed my mind. it'll be available in either 31 or 33 tooth count, and in red, black and raw. look for it hitting bb17 dealers soon.

jmik

midnight messages: chrome's annual 5 day sale

i've been sitting here talking about sales and i totally remembered that last year chrome had one. then my blackberry chimed and voila- there's the notification telling me of chrome's sale. i think it's one that you cant skip out on: 20% off everything with the code "chrome5day". this means, shoes, jackets, bags, tool pouches, accessories....

gotta get me a niko with this deal. you know it.

SALES SAILS SAY'LLS: eighthinch, iminusd, kulturelab

(via eighthinch)

(via imd)

(via klab fb)
i'll be on an RV riding down to disneyland on friday, so i probably wont be partaking in the economic festivities, but you probably can. our homies at eighthinch are knocking off 20% off parts and some other stuff. our other homies at iminusd are docking of 40% off everything in the store (which bums me out since i wont be around) as well as some swag bags for those who weather the storm. oh and the pfix will be docked down for ONE DAY ONLY (INTENSE, DUDE). and i'm not sure what our homies at klab are going to do, but i'm pretty sure youre going to be saving a bunch on these made in the USA sprockets.

i'm a huge fan of DIY//DGAF publications and ideas. gus molina is no exception to the rule, and though he's known as the honduran hammer of the bike, he's also a rad dude who made his own zine known as FOEV▲|||+FCK'D//. this is his second issue of the zine and i'm all for it! i'm going to be submitting something for the next one so look out for that.

toreyvision: wrahw witchtape VI

WRAHW Witchtape 6 from WRAHW on Vimeo.
no doubt torey comes with it every time a witchtape comes out. though this one doesnt have as much riding as any other vid we;ve seen lately, it's still wildly interesting and engaging. colin's tireslide to wheelie was impressive as was tom la marche's wheelie line. watch it and tune out.

jmik

beer always goes good with bikes: miller high life x chrome

so for 2 seconds i thought this was fake, until it became absolutely real. i likes me some mgd, and high life is the damn cham-pag-nee of beers, so its understandable to think this was a fluke. chrome has teamed up with miller high life to make a hip bag, a citizen messenger, and a small utility pouch. big ups to chrome for kicking off my damn christmas list!

jmik

because everyone is talking about friday: zlog boutique black friday

(via zlog)
i cant go a single damn day without hearing about black friday. even though i'm kind of sick of hearing it, i will however be trying to get me that hell on wheels acutal pain collabo crew even though i'll probably be on a car ride to disneyland by then. just troll the boutique until the 25th, and then use the discount code "BLACK" like the metal.

i'll even try to order that shit on my cellphone if it comes down to it.

jmik

faz is rad: leader team edit

Leader Team edit from faz adhili on Vimeo.
some of leader's elites went over to malaysia and indonesia to ride in a comp over there, and while they were there some footy was captured- this one's got 5th floor's rudy melo, macaframa/benny gold's jason yim, faz adhili and ifran wahyu ippe mobbing hills and passing cars. there needs to be more of this stuff.

jmik

depends on what dingle means: eighthinch scrambler dinglespeed

(via eighthinch)
forgive me right now, i'm on an "other people's awesome builds" run. this one fits that description pretty well.

"Aaron and his Scrambler have been going strong for over 2 years now but eventually there comes time for a change. Instead of moving to a new bike Aaron thought it would be best to give his Scrambler a bit of a makeover. He kept me posted as he stripped it down, gave it a new gloss black paint coat, and put on some nice upgrades. The addition of a chain tensioner and double crankset gives the bike that extra bit of versatility. Keep it in the big ring when you are on the streets or drop it down to the small ring when you hit hills or trails."

the definintion of dinglespeed isnt very clear but the concensus is a bike that has mechanically more than one gear but for all intensive purposes is a singlespeed. this is actually quite clean and doesnt look that hard to do. i'm impressed and it the and result looks pretty spectacular... dinglespeed tracklocross. that should catch on right? check out aaron's blog here too.

i see a paul melvin tensioner!

jmik

pretty much that's how it'll look like: firefly monstercross

(via prolly)
i know i can possibly get shitted on for taking prolly's post, but this thing is worth the hate. you know how i like realllllly stupid single purpose vehicles and this is more or less the vision of what i want my next bike to be, only singlespeed (or maybe fixed) like the amaro bikes version. but this firefly monstercross, knowing it's from firefly, it's either ti or stainless and nothing less. that's intense. pair it with the huge ass maxxis 26 x 2.5 hookworms, some chris king hubs and you have a bike that i'm straight googly eyed for..... you can see the rest of the set over here and go like firefly cycles over there.

ps. i'm pretty sure that's an older paul derailleur.

i fell off: mike schmitt fall off 2011

MTS - FALL OFF 2011 from GRIME BIKES on Vimeo.
i kind of missed this one, i dont know how i did. mike's got some brutal lines in this one and a ton of them are ridiculously creative. i know  there are are a handful of people who believe pegless is the way to go, but i think this might change some minds out there. well not change minds, more like blow minds. just watch for yourself.

p.s. whats this i hear about mike coming to san jose?

jmik

deliberate: KA SNAP goes jakob.

KA SNAP from Edward LAforte on Vimeo.
so the day this came out i watched it, and then continued my bike expo coverage. a couple hours later, my aunt tammie send this to me telling me to watch it again. it was harsh every time. seriously i cant even watch it again because it's so brutal. the kind of brutal tat makes you want to sit on the bench for a quick minute.

if you havent watched it. try watching it more than 2 times.

jmik

shipoopi: alex's scrappyshipoop

Scrappyshipoop from Gnarlos Rodriguez on Vimeo.
so i got this one in my inbox this morning and it has a bunch of stuff going for it- sometimes the ones deemed "scraps" are pretty damn good. some of this stuff is as recent as a little more than last week! really dug the uphill stair run, the little threaded run at :40, feeble 270 at 1:08, fakie smith whatever at 1:23, the various tight spot grinds, and the bad brains. cant forget bad brains!

jmik

killing me: mission workshop rummy in waxed canvas

(via mission workshop)
i also love the feel and look of waxed canvas. i love my battered and bruised mission workshop shed (large messenger). while i cant have both, the medium sized rummy will probably suffice. these limited edition setups boast 10 oz. waxed canvas construction with the same look and quality mission workshop is known for- just with good looking, weather-proof material. check it out.

sf bike expo 2011: recap and end thoughts

(kenny acid drop)

this is the post where i take everything and condense it into one- i though i did this end post, but i guess i let it slip. over that weekend i was basically exhausted by the fact that i would have to drive from san jose to brisbane both mornings, and on sunday i drove 3 hours back to chico. i was also exhausted by the bombardment of everything that was going on- everywhere you looked, there was something going on. that being said i have some suggestions and comments:

(eighthinch butcher v2 with proto parts)

1) CROSS PALACE! this year they didnt have a cyclocross track running through everything, and i always thought that was one of the more unique things of the event. so when it went away, it was kind of weird not seeing rainier from mash mobbing it.
2) day 2 had considerably less people. people didnt know that sunday would be the more intense day in terms of all the comps. maybe people had too much of the same thing going on, i dont know- but there were considerably less people. i didnt mind, more room for me to take dope pictures.
3) there is no 3- lists just look good when there's a third thing in them.

in any case, i had a ton of fun, and i think this year's fixed comp pushed some boundaries. i met people that i've only talked to via email and now apparently i'm going to try my hand at bike polo. i'd like to thank my homies that came out, and well... everyone who came out. i'd also like to thank fish and boothby for putting on AFC uproar, and phillip and his crew for putting on the whole thing.

1) intro and inside
2) AT showdown
3) day 1 randoms & AFC uproar ams
4) destroy "lady death" track feature
5) day 2 randoms & boothby bmx
6) AFC uproar: matt montoya & alex blanco
7) AFC uproar: johnny coward
8) AFC uproar: mike dinh & sean coats
9) AFC uproar: nikko jow
10) AFC uproar: justin "congo" mitchell
11) AFC uproar: jakob santos
12) AFC uproar: daniel torres
13) AFC uproar: joe mckeag
14) AFC uproar: kenny mother effing arimoto
15) AFC uproar: matt reyes

now i can get to blogging about other stuff!

sf bike expo 2011: matt reyes

Photobucket
if someone were to ask me what fixed freestyle is today, my answer would be matt reyes. it's a no brainer. there's a reason why he got first place and pretty much had the most pictures out of all the riders- dude is consistent and hit everything hard. check out the rest after the jump!

sf bike expo 2011: kenny mother effing arimoto

Photobucket
uh, kenny aint no joke. this thing started out on day 1 as an alley-oop 180 transfer or something. then it became a 3. then it became a 5 or something. if that dirt was packed down, i guarantee he wouldve taken the top spot. however this was only good enough to take second. he also did something else pretty spectacular, but you'll have to see that after the jump!

sf bike expo 2011: joe mckeag

Photobucket
the thing about joe is that he rotates so much that every time i snap a photo, his back is turned towards the lens. but that's just a minor side effect of his skillset. joe took 3rd in this year's comp. check out the rest after the jump.

sf bike expo 2011: daniel torres

Photobucket
lets be honest here, i have no clue how the hell daniel can ride that bike. dont get me wrong, i love that bike, but it's so much more different than any other fixed freestyle bike i've ridden. regardless of that, daniel bagged 4th place in the pros. check it out after the jump.

sf bike expo 2011: jakob santos

Photobucket
we know after sf bike expo, jakob shipped himself and his bike over to barcelona. briefly after he done messed up his ankle. i'm surprised my homie didnt mess himself up earlier- he was going hella hard during this comp. see for yourself after the jump.

sf bike expo 2011: justin "congo" mitchell

Photobucket
you cant deny that congo looks pretty gnar with that classic helmet on. dude looks like a fancy astronaut on an LDG hammer with 26" wheels. dude looks like a flying 70's crash test dummy. it's rad as hell. check out the rest to the congo radness after the jump.

sf bike expo 2011: nikko jow

Photobucket
nikko's been getting some attention here at BHSK. we recently saw his new prototype setup from xlife, and now here he is... see what he was trying to do in the set after the jump!

sf bike expo 2011: mike dinh and sean coats

Photobucket
Photobucket
didnt know that sean and mike were coming up for this, so when they showed i was pretty surprised. now that i look back on it, LDG was pretty omnipresent in the fixed comp. check out the rest of mike and sean's set after the jump.

sf bike expo 2011: johnny coward

Photobucket
i know johnny because he and the shmob crew went with the destroy crew to summerfix this past summer. he's been running the destroy masochist v3 proto, and dude can move it around. check out the rest of his set after the jump.

sf bike expo 2011: matt montoya & alex blanco

Photobucket
Photobucket
san jose heads should be familiar with alex and matt montoya- well actually everyone should know who matt and alex are. coming off the recent iminusd edit, these guys pretty much run the streets of san jose. check out the rest of the set after the jump!

sf bike expo 2011: day 2 randoms & boothby bmx

Photobucket
this was pretty much my home during the days over that weekend. on this one i have a bunch of random pictures that dont really have a category- i just want to get them out of the way before i get to the pro stuff. see the rest after the jump!

sf bike expo 2011: destroy's "lady death"

Photobucket
during day 1, i saw sean from destroy wrenching down on this fuchsia track bike in the corner of my eye. so i wandered over there and low and behold it had "DESTROY" in curly letters on the down tube. yes, this is a destroy track bike custom build. see more after the jump!

sf bike expo 2011: day 1 randoms and afc uproar ams

Photobucket
i showed up an hour after they opened the gates, and well we had a problem: the course was pretty much mud, and we had alot of loose dirt. solution: ride it. after that was all sorted out, we got everything moving and the am comp was on it's way.

sf bike expo 2011: AT showdown

Photobucket
alright so i know i wasnt here for the AT showdown but it's always something i really cant get away from. this year they changed up the setup- riders went at it side by side, 2 at a time. this meant thing went alot faster and upped the difficulty factor. see the rest of the set after the jump!

sf bike expo 2011: intro and inside

last year i was given a bunch of praise for the coverage of the fixed freestyle stuff (ams and pros) as well as part of the AT showdown and some stuff inside- but it was a surprise to be not only invited back but to be a part of the fixed freestyle comp AFC uproar.  from last year, i was kicked up form attending media to media sponsor (which i have no idea what that meant, but looked pretty awesome). i just want to thank phil, and fish for sorting my way in and for doing what they're doing! with that being said, let's take a look!

protoprotoproto: nikko jow's xlife prototype

the homie nikko just posted these up on his facbook and i have to say i'm impressed. the xlife scorpio may not be a household name, but it's still a pretty impressive contender in the FGFS sector. this protoincludes changes such as the "'nago" style downtube, as well as the additional nifty grind gussets (production version only has bb grind gussets). you can see some builds over here at xlife.

jmik

hm?: state bicycle co enters the FGFS game

(via state)
pedal consumption put this one up and simply said "You be the judge… I’m just sharing."... i just want to commend state bicycles for a bold move and you know what? i'm not bothered by it because it's not terrible. animal pedals, holdfast frs... but thats where the cool name brand stuff stops. 32 hole 700c's (700c's!) are alright, 36 would have been better. threadless headset (press in) and cartridge (euro) bottom bracket is a little dated for FGFS. however the price point is right, and it kind of reminds me of the old MKE bruiser complete in a lighter version. you can check it for yourself.

aint gonna lie though, them snapback hats look sick.

SH-SH-SH-SH-SHARK: phillip williams now on the destroy team

Welcome to Destroy Bikes from Sam Clark on Vimeo.
being so close to the destroy crew, i kinda knew this was about to happen- just didnt realized how soon it would be! the destroy unicorn killer is one of the most underrated frames out there, and it's one of the frames (well the minotaur version was the one i liked) i would go 26" for (like that would happen). phillip moves that bike like it's nothing pulling of steezy slow hang overs and fakie double pegs. welcome to the destroy fam phillip!

jmik

because my internet is slow: joe's proto promo

Mashafix.com presents - Joe McKeag Signature Frame Coming Soon from Mashafix.com on Vimeo.
every time i get to uploading i get the short end of the stick- i'm always in san jose where the internet is ridiculously slow. so with that suff going on in the background, i can catch up on blogging. jahrome from mashafix has been really really putting in work lately. in this one we see joe's prototype frame being built up at the destroy workshop up in redwood city before sf bike expo cut with some riding up and down cali as well as seizure inducing flashes. in any case, keep a close eye on unknown for the drop!

the need for new pants: affinity kissena velo fund frameset and complete

(via prolly)
john recently visited new york, and while he was there he took some snaps of one of my favorite frames out there. the kissena is race proven and drop dead gorgeous- however this particular kissena is part of a bigger thing. this bass boat black with chunky glitter is all in support of the kissena velo fund. there's only 250 made, you become a patron and have your name engraved on the KVF memorial wall and it's tax deductable like a boss. if you get the complete over the frameset, youre getting fyxation, FSA, thompson, and h plus son parts. this is what i want for christmas.

jmik
