summerfix '11: notes and recap

so i'm finally done with the coverage of LA summerfix 2011. it took me a week or so to get the photos all together,but i can finally get onto blogging other stuff.


like the redbull comp i have some things that might need to be worked out:
1) this thing needed to be hyped up more. last year it was relaly really hyped, but this year it was hard to get info on it.
2) pro and am need to be more defined- there were some people that needed to be in some middle class or in the am class. flow dudes are different than sponsored dudes.
3) more security at the entrance of the course- it was way too crowded and hard to control. that's pretty much how bikes get stolen.
4) a different course setup would have been nice. all of our pics look like last years!


i'm happy i made it out there for the comp and everything else. i'm hoping i can make it to next years' summerfix event.

i just want to thank the destroy crew for allowing me to come with, and also the shmob crew for tagging along. i'd also like to thank my girlfriend for putting up with my crap and letting me go. special thanks to scotty for letting us crash at your house while you were away! thanks LAB for putting on a great event. now back to your regularly scheduled blogging... after i get some coffee.

summerfix '11: josh boothby

and first place went to josh boothby. yeah, it took me a while to get to his post, but we're here now. last year josh took the "intermediate" prize, and this year he threw it waith some consistency to take it all. see the rest after the jump.

summerfix '11: steven jensen

not going to lie, i went kinda apeshit when i found out steven was going to be there. yeah ive seen him before, but you have to understand that watching steven ride never gets old. he took second this year pulling off stuff like this no footed nose manny. see more after the jump!

summerfix '11: Joe McKeag

joe took third this year- the guy has the cleanest 540's in the game, and no handed tucks, and tabletops.... dude just floats when he hucks himself off a ramp. he is also a really fun dude to hang out with... see more after the jump!

i'm always psyched to see jakob- dudes like family. also running an LDG hammer, the livery deign gruppe posterboy placed 4th in the competition. see more after the jump!

summerfix '11: congo

if this was animated, you'd be getting a show. congo placed 5th this year, and he was putting that brand new LDG hammer to work. i was kinda bummed, when we left ghetto park, congo showed up. see more after the jump!

summerfix '11: oscar khan!!!

yes, i was ridiculously psyched to see oscar khan. why? because he's oscar khan and you never see the guy aside from 14bikeco edits or wrahw edits. i wasn't disappointed, the guy was exactly how i imagined. see more after the jump!

this is normal. absolutely. matt is out of his mind and likes to push the limits of his bike- even if its a brand new leader pharoah.  see what caused this, and see more pics after the jump.

summerfix '11: daniel torres of destroy

yeah, i spent all weekend with this guy. if you leave yourself open, he will take that opportunity to chazz you. anyway, he rides for destroy and though he's pretty unorthodox (more on that after the jump) dude can ride. see the rest of it after the jump.

this is the third time i've seen mike in a competition and the dude never disappoints. instead of riding the usual TRK, he was there riding the new leader hurricane model- pretty sure that's his own geo built for him! pretty neat. see more after the jump!

summerfix '11: Jamil Gray

i've said it before and i'll say it again, i dont think we get enough jamil grey. dude's got some much to bring to the table and can do some really flawless 180 bars off anything. see more after the jump!

sean coats is hard to blog about. he's just sean. everyone wants to hates sean, but he's sean so you can really hate him. it's fucking sean fucking coats. see the rest of the set after the jump.

nick hung out at the leader tent with the destroy guys alot, but i unfortunately had to be on the course taking pictures. see more after the jump!

when youre sitting at ghetto park chillin' and the air gets pierced with a "WHAAAATSSS GOOOOOD!?!?!" you know it could be none other than our homie nikko jow. see more of him after the jump.

i realized that when i was doing the posts with multiple riders, i had skipped over tony. so by my mistake, tony's got his own post! lucky bastard. nah, tony's a good kid, he's just really emo on the twitter and the google plus. see more of tony after the jump!

i see the look on your face, you're thinking "who the fuck are these guys? i've never heard of them!" lets be honest here, i didnt know who they were either- however they do belong on here because they are some rad as fuck dudes. get some story and the rest of the pics after the jump.

curtis is the newest member of the destroy team coming from central cal. you may have seen me hype up his edits for black sheep cycles. true story, the day he came down he went riding and people mistook him for boothby. das way-sist. see more of curtis after the jump.

so along with the destroy crew, we also rolled with the shmob dudes who stayed with us all four days of the trip. we pretty much led the bay area invasion of the los angeles area. in the comp we had tyler, wynn, and johnny- see all the pics after the jump!
