because the internet made me search: Supernova bikes

(via supernova)
so i was looking over the results of berlin's rad race on the interwebs (because the event really looked interesting) when a particular bike caught my eye. it was almost a gulf livery orange and blue, and had logos i had never seen before; i'm a curious fellow, and i know that there's not much in the track bike world that i haven't seen so naturally i had to look them up. these guys are supernova, they make frames out in italy. the two machines they have are the atom (up on top) and the pro 2.0 (bottom) which the latter seemed like the weapon of choice. first of all, GAT DAMN THESE THINGS ARE PRETTY. the atom would be their carbon setup and the supernova pro 2.0 is made of columbus tubing (because italian, duh) and both seem like wonderfully streetable frames. i really hope to see more from these folks, because these frames look fantastic. check them out.

there's other things to life: NAHBS SLC 2017

North American Handmade Bicycle Show (NAHBS) from NAHBS on Vimeo.

i dropped the ball. the north american handmade bike show was in my backyard (okay... an hour and a half away from me or so but close enough), and i missed it. i went with the destroy fam a few years ago and had a blast, we all crammed in a small motel room and got to see some rad bikes from builders we could actually talk to. now that i'm doing alright now, i want to go out there again. unfortunately it's not gonna be in sacto for a while, but it is going to be in salt lake city, utah. roadtrip anyone? check it.

#bigboywheelclique: andy sparks' "dreams"

Andy Sparks | Dreams from Andy Sparks McMullen on Vimeo.
the fam andy sparks is one of the most down to earth dudes i've every met, and he holds down the east bay as well as the proper wheel size. this being said, he's got one of the cleanest styles in the game that hearkens back to early FGFS while integrating modern tricks. i really think that a ton of riders have lost sensible bike control in the pursuit of bigger tricks, which makes andy's riding that much more incredible. you almost forget that he's running a bike that's huge by today's FGFS apparent standard of 26". let's also not forget that it's a bike that holds the geometry of the FGFS mid-school era witht he straight top tube and short wheelbase. folks, this is the standard you should be aiming for.

it's gotta be the pants: levis commuter "the ride" trailer

i get a whole lot of flack from my co workers about my love for levi's commuters. although i dont necessarily "commute" in them, they're a damn good fitting pant (which explains why i own 4 pairs of them), and they feel good even on an fgfs bike. the denim giant is doing a campaign featuring folks ho represent certain commuter cultures. one of those cultures i'm very familiar with involves oakland's own baybe the scraper bike champ. that dude is such a nice guy, and he's really doing a lot for the bike community out there even if you don't agree with the kind of ride he's got. i really can't wait to see his feature.

bhsk is a mountain bike blog now: all city junkyard dog

(via allcity)
as a fan of the big boy wheel size (though i really have no business on a 29er), the folks over at all city caught my attention with theit newest offering. there really is no reason why the JYD should exist, but it does... and i'm glad it does. it's not really a mountain bike, not really an FGFS bike, not really a hardcore commuter, not really a cx bike. so what is the JYD? it's a hoonmobile. i love hoonmobiles. they serve no purpose but to slip through alleyways, take a dirt jump, barrel down stairs- whatever. all city makes sexy looking bike whatever the intended purpose is, so feast your eye hole at the complete specs here.

the setup: vans x leader bikes

LEADER BIKES x VANS 2014 S/S COLLABORATION COLLECTION - Teaser Trailer from BROTURES on Vimeo.
i woke up and glanced through my instagram feed (like a normal person should) and came across this short one with vans crossing over onto a leader 735. i'm not a big fan of collaborations, but considering that vans does have a pretty decent track record of good bike collaborations (i.e with charge bikes and cult bmx and shadow conspiracy) this could be a good one. i'm still on the fence, but you can judge for yourself.

totally normal: fairdale r + d

Fairdale R+D from Fairdale Bikes on Vimeo.
yes, this has already made it's rounds, but if you haven't seen this, then you should see this. nothing nuts, it;s just good ol' fashioned hoonery from the folks over at fairdale bikes.

giovanni, telaisti italiani: a day with pelizzoli

A Day With Pelizzoli from Michele Colucci on Vimeo.
there's a name i havent heard being thrown around in a while. michele colucci got to spend some time with famed italian frame builder, pelizzoli. this guy is a damn artisan and his frames are masterpieces.  here you'll see him and his team form a track machine, a carbon race monster, and some lug work. that track bike melted my eyes into a puddle of "ZOMG WOW" soup.

what the details say: garreth's field cycles fixed build

(via field cycles)
i loves me a great looking build and our friends at field cycles know how to make a looker of a bike. upon first look you may think that this is an aluminum bike- youre dead wrong. this is steel, yo. the ovalized top tube was actually a reynolds tandem boom tube (bottom tube connecting bottom brackets), and the filet brazed welds finish off a smooooth looking bike. you can see more of this build over here.

the winter is the best time of them all: little wing by no. 22 bicycles

Little Wing - No.22 Bicycle Co. from Steve Carty on Vimeo.
so i'm in the process of designing the BHSK track bike (well, it's been in my head since forever, i just need to get my ass to destroy) and i'm finding inspiration in bikes like these. this is "little wing" by no.22 bicycles, and she is fucking gorgeous. shown off by toronto's andrew romashya (who is a bloody fast rider i might add), this bike is raw, tight, and has geo that makes dude like me wanna cry. check out no. 22's other offering over here as well.

brush up on that espanol: pablo anttila

MALOS PASOS · SEGUNDA TEMPORADA | FIXED GEAR · PABLO ANTTILA from Recmobil on Vimeo.
i know my demographic, and it's not mainly spanish speaking. however i think this film is a great visual of a dude who is a great part of santiago, chile's fixed gear cycling scene. backed by kameleon bikes, pablo anttila is a killer on and off the track. again, you dont have to speak the language to know what's good.

catching up: road bike party 2

i'm about a week out so i have a little bit of catching up to do. i'm not worried though since im sitting on a ton of shit i want to comment on and have this whole refreshing feeling going on and shit. first up we have martyn ashton's road bike party 2. yeah sure this has been all over the interwebs, but fuck it- watch this shit again. martyn blew us all away with the first road bike party and now he's got himself a dis brake wielding colnago (as if the pinarello dogma wasnt enough in his last video). this time around he's brought chris akrigg AND danny macaskill- both of whom we know can do ape shit stuff on a variety of bikes.

ashton injured himself filming this, taking some to the vertibrae. get better duder!

the flying scotsman: "the outsider" featuring graeme obree

graeme obree is one of the most influential people in cycling today. he's gone against the UCI, against francesco moser, and against everything that's traditional- he paved the way for aerodynamics and riding positions. the outsider is a project that's been going on for a while and now it's needs your support. this film follows the flying scotsman on his journey to build a record breaking human powered machine. you can check it out over here.

#2blogs1brand1dudetour: still buzzed

#2blogs1brand1dudetour: still buzzed from BHSK_cogblog on Vimeo.

this was supposed to come out a lot earlier but due to some technical difficulties i had to redo it. twice. i decided to take my go pro to interbike and have random clips of whatever i was around. but then chrome kept giving out beer so i ended up with a bunch of crappy stuff. ibike was fun- ate wings every day, drank beer every day, but now i have it all out of my system and this edit was a nightmare to get out.

shouts to lockedcog for forcing me to turn up.
shouts to slurpcult for driving and keeping me frosty.
shouts to alex gonzalez AKA the stroke master AKA spongebob swag AKA the queen of drag.
shouts to showyousuck for flip phone.
shouts to blocboifame for disrespectful.
shouts to chrome for keeping my buzz.

my money, you can has it: QBP introduces cogburn outdoors

Introducing Cogburn Outdoors from Cogburn on Vimeo.
i'm a little asian dude from san jose. for some reason, i have these redneck tendencies- i own realtree stuff, i like guns, and if you get me to a certain point... i can show that i know lyrics to alan jackson songs. so when a fatbike  designed to replace ATV use in hunting shows up in front of me, i'm natually intrigued. a fatbike with scram x2, surly nates, full realtree and flat black appearance, and a gun/bow rack. i know i'm all supposed to be about that urban FGFS/track crap, but goddamnit i want this in my life.

the website isnt up yet, but you can keep tabs here.

the details: takashi's road bike by field cycles

(via field)
yeah yeah yeah, i know this is a road frameset. i'm a huge fan of field cycles' craftsmanship and you really can't be mad at that. so screw you, i post what i want. every single detail is spot on right down to the painted cinelli combo bars.

"This is the first of our bikes in Japan, built up as a fast race bike for Takashi’s local mountainous roads. It features a compact reynolds 853 front triangle, Columbus Life chainstays and our custom shaped S bend seatstays. Up front the oversized 44mm i.d headtube with our investment cast bronze headbadge makes a seamless front end when married to the ENVE composites 1.0 fork.

The paint is our most complex to date, Immaculately and painstakingly applied across the frame, fork and Cinelli integrated bars and it’s come out a treat. Inspired by snow capped peaks and alpine landscape, with a nod to the dazzle camouflage.
"

you can see more of this beastly framset here.

gojira: stoempvelo

StoempVelo from Stoemper on Vimeo.
stoemper bikes is a handmade cycling company based out of springfield oregon. they make a mean cross bike, but it looks like they've went out of their comfort zone and made a track monster for guy east, a top 6 day rider. for those of you who dont know what i'm talking about, 6 day is literally riding for 6 days. of course it's a team sport but literally from the name, you should know that 6 day events are brutal. guy and his partner daniel halloway finished 12th overall at this event, but i'd just be happy if i finished. damn.
