the headlands: MASHSF's rainer_SS

rainier_SS from MASH TRANSIT PRODUCTIONS on Vimeo.
rainier is one of my favorite riders ever. he's fast. very fucking fast. i stumbled upon this looking for new stuff to throw out there and although it's not a track bike, it's still fucking insane. first of all, if you thought san francisco had hills, you should venture off into the marin headlands. SF has short but very steep hills, marin has long and windy hills. again, it's on a bike that can coast, but if you add in the fact that the pathway he's on is BARELY made for pedestrians AND the fact that he's pacing the camera vehicle, it's all very impressive and butthole clench inducing. as always MASH over everything, y'all.

fat bottomed: CX magazine reviews the bombtrack hook

(via CX)
i have a confession. i want a cyclocross bike, and i want one very badly. more specifically, i've been looking into the idea of a monstercross setup- a cross bike with tires that are almost ridiculously wide for a bike with drops. since the advent of the 650b/27.5er tire, it's become easier and easier to turn ordinary cyclocross rigs into fat footprint bearing singletrack thugs. our friends over at bombtrack realize this, so they set off to make (at least for me) one of the coolest and cleanest cross setups of the bunch. we know that bombtrack makes some rad stuff, and the Hook EXT is no exception. the shit just looks proportionally correct to me, which is really hard to do with the fatty rubber to the ground.

anyway, cyclocross mag got their hands on one, and you can check out their rundown here!

there's other things to life: NAHBS SLC 2017

North American Handmade Bicycle Show (NAHBS) from NAHBS on Vimeo.

i dropped the ball. the north american handmade bike show was in my backyard (okay... an hour and a half away from me or so but close enough), and i missed it. i went with the destroy fam a few years ago and had a blast, we all crammed in a small motel room and got to see some rad bikes from builders we could actually talk to. now that i'm doing alright now, i want to go out there again. unfortunately it's not gonna be in sacto for a while, but it is going to be in salt lake city, utah. roadtrip anyone? check it.

this one goes out to the ladies: bombtrack 2015 line in video

now that i'm plopped in front of this computer, what's the first on the agenda? well let's take a minute and catch up with the bombtrack familia, shall we?

The DASH 2015 from WeMakeThings on Vimeo.
now i'm sure just about everyone who frequents this blog has seen this one on the internets. low and behold, this is a wolfdrawn joint disguised as a teaser for the bombtrack dash. and you should already know about the dash as well as the guy at the helm, elliot milner. so we wont really get into it. just sit there and enjoy it.

The SCRIPT 2015 from WeMakeThings on Vimeo.
now this fucker i want in my stable immediately. the script is bombtrack's aluminum track monster. it's sexy as fuck. tapered head tube, sram omni-nomnomnoms, a female axle front wheel with buttery smoothed out welds all over makes me want to take this thing out to dinner and kiss it goodnight.

to say i want this one is an understatement.

The NEEDLE 2015 from WeMakeThings on Vimeo.
actually no, i want this one in my stable. if the script is the sexy one that flirts with you all the time, then the needle is the one that keeps it real. this one is all new for 2015, and it's right up my alley with the reynolds 725 tubing- yep. it's fucking steel. and all of it is steel right down to that 5 piece fork. it's the blue collar beast and it even has a place where you can put that chris king headset you've been sitting on for ages.

The ARISE 2015 from WeMakeThings on Vimeo.
still staying within the singlespeed realm, bombtrack brings us the arise. this one we've seen photos of before but not much else. another steel offering, this one ventures off into the wild as a SSCX bike. but it's not so simple. you see, this one has a derailleur hanger, removable cable tabs, a built in singlespeed chain tensioner..... hell the thing has rack mounts if you really want to get into it.

The HOOK 2015 from WeMakeThings on Vimeo.

this is the part where things get rad. the hook is a full on cyclocross bike. it's a straight up, built to fucking kill, cyclocross bike- and a damn good one too. we're talking sram rival, avid discs, mavic wheels, all strapped to (wait for it) columbus tubing. holy fuck. i was gonna type something witty and funny here but all that comes to mind is "holy fuck that's built ass bike"

The OXBRIDGE WOMEN 2015 from WeMakeThings on Vimeo.

The OXBRIDGE MEN 2015 from WeMakeThings on Vimeo.
and now for something completely different. the oxbridge is bombtrack's mild mannered city bike. we're talking, full fenders, box rims,  gum wall tires, and everything old school. oh and ladies? you got a version of the oxbridge as well.

two bikes that haven't seen video treatment yet are the divide and zone. the divide is the "old school" 700c FGFS on which bombtrack is recognized for, and the zone is an urban super commuter that features a shimano internally geared hub.

it's crazy to see how much the bombtrack fam has grown in a matter of a few years. they may have a few more in the garage but the focus has still remained as their offerings have the common thread of being badass rides with top shelf stuff installed.

i said, bhsk is a mountain bike blog now (sort of): urban fixed downhill in latvia

''Urban Fixed DH'' - Latvia, Grizinkalns. from Urban Fixed DH on Vimeo.
ignore the crappy music- this looks sketch as fuck. i woud really love to see something like this happen stateside. if you think about it, no one really has an advantage. sure a freestyle dude could breeze through it, but the bottom bracket height might play a big factor, yeah a dude with a mountain bike background could blow through this, but some of those dudes don't know how to pedal check. and if you run a full on track bike, you might DIE. anyway, always stoked to see my bombtrack familia push events out in europe!

totally normal: fairdale r + d

Fairdale R+D from Fairdale Bikes on Vimeo.
yes, this has already made it's rounds, but if you haven't seen this, then you should see this. nothing nuts, it;s just good ol' fashioned hoonery from the folks over at fairdale bikes.

here's the part where i mention los angeles: CBNC x david flores

CBNC x David Flores Skinsuits by Endo Customs from CBNC on Vimeo.

(via TOLA)
these folks are rad folks. CBNC teamed up with david flores to make some rad skin suits. to commemorate this, the team went on a little jaunt through the streets. these peoples are super cool peoples, and they party as hard as they ride. you can see more of the kit over here. shoutout to sean of TOLA for being in a constant state of hardstyle.

afrique: lucas brunelle goes to africa

Lucas Brunelle goes to Africa from Cinelli Official on Vimeo.
though we exchanged little words during interbike, i was honored to meet lucas brunelle at interbike. the man is a beast when it comes to riding, an epic filmmaker and to top it off, he's a cool dude. cinelli asked him to accompany chas christiansen, dario toso, and sipho tati on a journey through africa. dune bombing, flat mobbing, urban exploration and more are in this one. if this doesnt inspire you to get your ass out and ride, i'm not sure what will.

#2blogs1brand1dudetour: still buzzed

#2blogs1brand1dudetour: still buzzed from BHSK_cogblog on Vimeo.

this was supposed to come out a lot earlier but due to some technical difficulties i had to redo it. twice. i decided to take my go pro to interbike and have random clips of whatever i was around. but then chrome kept giving out beer so i ended up with a bunch of crappy stuff. ibike was fun- ate wings every day, drank beer every day, but now i have it all out of my system and this edit was a nightmare to get out.

shouts to lockedcog for forcing me to turn up.
shouts to slurpcult for driving and keeping me frosty.
shouts to alex gonzalez AKA the stroke master AKA spongebob swag AKA the queen of drag.
shouts to showyousuck for flip phone.
shouts to blocboifame for disrespectful.
shouts to chrome for keeping my buzz.

doing the work: bombrack @ interbike

(via lockedcog)
though if finished my gopro edit of interbike i've been having issues trying to get the thing straight and exported. so while i figure that out, i'm scooping some stuff from my car mate in the #2blogs1brand1dude tour, kris from lockedcog. he got these really nice photos of what's coming outof the bombtrack fam- the script, dash, and arise. the script is a mild pursuit track setup, the dash id their fully decked out FGFS 26", and the arise is their newest offering into SSCX. that arise has a titanium finish which is BLAZINGLY bright. look for them to come stateside soon.

the non-idle hands: fyxation custom program

(via fyxation)
the fyxation familia makes arguably one of the most versatile framesets on the market right now with the quiver. they also put forth a great steel track/singlespeed frameset known as the eastside. however not all of us are bike mechanics and not allof us have the time to completely build one of these beauties up. that's where fyxation comes in to save the day. want to run full ultegra on your quiver? they can do that. just want the cleanest singlespeed workhorse you can run? they can do that too. just contact them and they could get things rolling. simple as that.

beginning to end: traitor cycles, how we roll

Traitor Cycles, How We Roll from Traitor Cycles on Vimeo.
i lost touch with traitor cycles- if you could remember when they first hit the scent, they were making some pretty rad looking SS and fixed setups. since then it looks like they've moved their focus to commuters and CX. in this one, you'll see a setup go from start to finish. pretty interesting.

the name isn't what it means: cinelli bootleg for the tour d'afrique 2013

CINELLI BOOTLEG Tour d'Afrique 2013 from CINELLI-BOOTLEG on Vimeo.
no, cinelli bootleg in this case doesn't mean someone took an ebay visp and put a mash sf livery on it. bootleg is actually a subdivision of sorts of the famous cinelli brand. last year they did the tour d'afrique on a modified hoy hoy rats frame- that's 12,000km (for us 'mercuhns, that's about 7500 miles) from cairo to cape town. that's really really frickin far. this year, they're using a whole new columbus steel framed steed which will brobably dampen out the rough dirt roads out in africa.

but i won't do that: why all city won't put model names on their bikes

(via allcity)
minneapolis based all city is a great bike company that's been providing for the fixed gear community for ages but there's one thing that's poking everyone's brains. see, if you haven't noticed it, all of the all city bikes have radical names (i.e. space horse, macho man, nature boy, air wolf) but no where are those names seen on these frames.... if you click on this link, jeff explains why.

here's an excerpt:
"3. We'd probably have to name our bikes not stupid things
Now I love the names of our bicycles, they are dear to my heart, but they're also kind of stupid and ridiculous, which is just the way we want them. If we actually put a name on our top tube, we'd probably have to be a lot more conventional with what we called things. Fuck that.
"

if your company head can't say "fuck" in public, maybe you should reconsider where your bike comes from. right on jeff!

why hasn't this happened: pub pedals for crankbros eggbeater

(via bikerumor)
i know this isnt FGFS or track bike related per se, but 1) this is my fuckin blog and i do what i please and 2) i'm kind of a nerd for simple yet elegant shit like the crank brothers eggbeater pedals. the eggbeater has been  a staple in clipless setups and they're not fun to ride with when you're not in a clipless mood. enter the pub pedal- a sleeve that goes around the non platform stock egg beaters and makes them sole friendly. why has this ceased to exist till now!? you can get more information at their indiegogo site.

may cause seizures: v spooky CNBC RN

V Spooky CBNC RN from Joseph Lobato on Vimeo.
according to my instagram, bhsk is a food blog now. according to this post, bhsk is a cross blog now. bhsk is whatever you want it to be but we already know what CNBC is; and it, my friends, is rad. it's not all track bikes and #skidsbro out there, cross is actually pretty cool and it looks like their cycling heads got into it.
