wheelie wars: FOAD goes to SE's oakland rideout

Jackson from the FOAD fam rode out to oakland to join some of the oldschool eb86 crew to hit up the SE bike rideout. Wheelie culture is huge right now, and SE bikes has been bringing it since day one. so many heads out there, including D-Blocks, BEASTMODE, and the wildman/SE head honcho todd lyons. glad to see there was a good FGFS and tarck turnout as well! digging the vlogs jackson!

#FIXIEREUNION2017: prickly syringe jam 2017

Prickly Syringe Jam AKA #fixiereunion2017 from BHSK_cogblog on Vimeo.
i had the weekend off and i had every intention to go down to monterey for the sea otter classic at laguna seca. but this came up and i made the executive decision (pretty much the night before) to ditch burning up and being caked in dirt in monterey, in order to head to 3rd and army in san francisco where it was overcast and ocean salty. i made the right decision. there were so meany heads out there that i havent seen in years and there was so much shit going on. now this is basically only the tip of the iceberg- i have a shit ton of photos i have to sift through tonight. anyway, shout out to mike and matt for making this happen and dudes like ramon and jball for putting up some prizes.

i'm fucking stoked how this came out by the way. holy hell....

what the fuck happened to FGFS part II: the shift and split

when i last left you on this series of essays,  i dove into the origins of FGFS. it was quick, and basically spanned from the days of breaking carbon forks doing keo spins, into breaking everything doing 360 flyouts. now here comes the stuff that will make you either love what i'm saying or hate what i'm saying. get it after the jump.

HOT DAMN: Chas Christansen for MASH

holy shit. i'm at a loss for words here. this fool came straight out the airport, rides in the rain, rides in the dirt, rides in the mud and gives zero fucks throughout. chas is a train. scratch that, chas knows how to bob and weave through traffic like a boxer dodging the blows of an opponent. just watch the fucking video and learn a thing or two.

six years and only one decent idea: an apology and some BHSK project introduction

i started this blog in a dorm room in 2008. i really didn't see this more than a chronicling of crap that i do day to day since at the time i moved to a new city knowing no one. it's 2014 now and a whole lot has changed during that amount of time- including BHSK. initially this was supposed to highlight full on track bikes on the street but with the rise of FGFS, it's become more of an FGFS blog with a small track bike fetish when no one is looking.

how the fuck did that happen? that's what i'm going to try and find out. there's been so many things  that have influenced me as a blogger/rider/photo dude and i want to kind of shine a light on these people and places. with the fixed gear culture basically being dumbed down and diluted to shitty cookie cutter bikes which the general public deems as a colorful, inconvenient nuisance, i want to bring up some original shit and backtrack to why this thing became a worldwide phenomenon. i mean think about it: there are some people, companies, bikes and places out there that have brought the track bike/fixed gear/fgfs bike to where it is today. this is a huge undertaking that i have no clue how i'm going to fund, plan or do, but i'm going to try and work my ass off to do it.

i'm also going to redo the site because it's looked like this for a really long time and i'm kind of getting sick of how shitty and ratty it looks compared to the other homies' blogs. i mean come on.... i havent changed ths layout since...... 2010? 2011? damn i've been doing this shit for way too long.

forgive me for being away from the keyboard for such a long time, but i really needed this space to think and stuff.

here's the part where i mention los angeles: CBNC x david flores

CBNC x David Flores Skinsuits by Endo Customs from CBNC on Vimeo.

(via TOLA)
these folks are rad folks. CBNC teamed up with david flores to make some rad skin suits. to commemorate this, the team went on a little jaunt through the streets. these peoples are super cool peoples, and they party as hard as they ride. you can see more of the kit over here. shoutout to sean of TOLA for being in a constant state of hardstyle.

the cheetah: nelson vails x cinelli

Cheetah: The Nelson Vails Story trailer from stephane gauger on Vimeo.
(via cinelli)
i've had the priviledge to shake this dude's hand at interbike. nelson is a maverick when it comes to track cycling not because he was black, but because he was fast. not only was he fast, he came from humble beginnings coming straight out of harlem. the guy took gold for america when the olympics were held at home in LA. that's rad. to commemorate the film documenting the rise of the cheetah, cinelli has made some limited edition caps. you can see more here.

last page sexy face yung fixie: SOFB 16

stoked on fixed bikes is on their 16th issue and though i tend to let SOFB slip under my radar, this is actually a pretty special issue (well, to me anyway). first off they interview the fam: jakob santos. they also profile the tuga tour he did while accompanied by his brother jesse as well as the incomparable ricardo lino. flip to the back at page 90 and we have another on of the bhsk fam, alex gonzalez in an ad for BB17. i'm so proud of that dude. #YUNGFIXIEFOREVERTHO

i feel old: 209cogs BS and extras

209COGS BS & Extras from Tommy Mao on Vimeo.
shit man, i've known these kids for a long ass time. i remember when they were grubby high school dudes (well dome of them still are but regardless of that, i feel old as fuck). the stockton crew  is full of crazy talented dudes: tommy mao, james deleon (bhsk fam AND VAPE KING), jordan and james madarang, alex nunez, #dawsonphanisafoodblognow and alex gonzalez AKA yungfixie all get down on this. shit man, i havent seen a clip of alex nunez for a minute. what was that? a 1440 by yungfixie? oh! and jordan madarang with that nasty-esque slider. dudes kill it.

kilometers: 8bar fixed alpcross

8bar FIXED ALPCROSS from 8bar BIKES on Vimeo.
i'm having a really tough time watching this since i dont really have a bike i can put distance on. but as soon as i get set up, i know i'll be rolling a long ride. the folks over at 8bar did a really long ride across the austrian alps spanning 400 km (roughly 250 miles for us 'mercan folk) up and down ridiculous grades. austria and europe in general seem like gorgeous places to ride even though it seems like an absolute suicide for the legs to do something like this....

the authority of a certain sport: iminusd "i'd rather be" license plate frame

(via imd)
youve seen it before. a license plate frame from a certain sporting goods retailer that screams at you "i'd rather be (insert sport here)." yeah they're free but you also become a moving ad for the damn place. that's not cool. why not run something that you'd be proud of and support a local shop like you should. go buy one of these fuckers from iminusd and wear that shit proud.

SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BIKE SHOP PEOPLE.

far from refined, tastefully raw: bbb #6

BBB #6 from MoN on Vimeo.
as my blogging tourettes continues, here's the sixth edition of ramon antonio III's BBB stuff. sure it's full of random shit, sure it's full of not great tricks and lines, but it's true to form every fuckin time. hobos, bails, segway tours, vape pens, CATS!, assisted tire grabs, a look into the living conditions at destroy den (they WILL put bikes on you while you sleep, FACT), and me.... blocking the damn camera (whoops). anyway, this is 8 minutes and 26 seconds of pure gold.

the winter is the best time of them all: little wing by no. 22 bicycles

Little Wing - No.22 Bicycle Co. from Steve Carty on Vimeo.
so i'm in the process of designing the BHSK track bike (well, it's been in my head since forever, i just need to get my ass to destroy) and i'm finding inspiration in bikes like these. this is "little wing" by no.22 bicycles, and she is fucking gorgeous. shown off by toronto's andrew romashya (who is a bloody fast rider i might add), this bike is raw, tight, and has geo that makes dude like me wanna cry. check out no. 22's other offering over here as well.

catching up: road bike party 2

i'm about a week out so i have a little bit of catching up to do. i'm not worried though since im sitting on a ton of shit i want to comment on and have this whole refreshing feeling going on and shit. first up we have martyn ashton's road bike party 2. yeah sure this has been all over the interwebs, but fuck it- watch this shit again. martyn blew us all away with the first road bike party and now he's got himself a dis brake wielding colnago (as if the pinarello dogma wasnt enough in his last video). this time around he's brought chris akrigg AND danny macaskill- both of whom we know can do ape shit stuff on a variety of bikes.

ashton injured himself filming this, taking some to the vertibrae. get better duder!

the flying scotsman: "the outsider" featuring graeme obree

graeme obree is one of the most influential people in cycling today. he's gone against the UCI, against francesco moser, and against everything that's traditional- he paved the way for aerodynamics and riding positions. the outsider is a project that's been going on for a while and now it's needs your support. this film follows the flying scotsman on his journey to build a record breaking human powered machine. you can check it out over here.

well damn: chas for mash sf

Chas Christiansen from MASH TRANSIT PRODUCTIONS on Vimeo.
ho-ly shit. chas is definitely an inspiration to me as a rider because behind those glasses is a psychopath. watching him running up the hill made me tired... then watching him mob down the hill knocked me out. he's been running the prototype mashsf x cinelli parallax since they gave him one and though it's been battered and bruised, it's still kickin ass. if you're reading this cinelli: I WANT ONEEEEEE PLEEEEEEZZZZZ.

the leaves: NNR in New York

NNR in New York, NY from God & Famous on Vimeo.
while i was trying to get my shit together, this one popped up into my line up of "to do" posts. i really cant get enough out our homies out at NY's god&famous and you really cant say their name without making a link to the dudes at never not riding. fall in in full swing, and as the days get colder, the layers pile on. really like how this turned out- the urban black and white colorways of G&F really stick out when it comes to the autumn backdrop.

the other side: wheeltalk-TVC racing

Wheeltalk-TVC Racing Promo #1 from The Volcano Club on Vimeo.
bet you didnt know that wheeltalk has a racing division. even though most of the time we see the fixed freestyle dudes, it looks like we're going to see the other side more often. with the help of fish's volcano club, we're definitely going to see some goooooood ol' speed.
