the blog: BHSK
#fixiefamous: prolly

BHSK reviews things: royal HC cellphone pouch

Photobucket
i like to support home grown companies- there's something about people who have the drive to make something out of nothing. Royal HC happens to be one of those companies. based out of long beach (the other capital of FGFS), they produce mainly FRS systems (and a damn good and different looking one at that) but they also produce cordura goods. knowing this, i scooped up a cellphone pouch from royal, and get what i think of it after the jump!

polo, not yolo: 321 polo reviews the eighthinch polo pro mallet

(via 321polo)
whether you're an amateur or a seasoned pro, our fam at eighthinch makes it super easy to get into polo. the guys who run 321polo recently got their hands on eighthinch's pro mallets which have a bunch of different features over their other mallet head. i'm not a big polo player but i do have one of their mallets i use for when i want to smack around a polo ball on the FGFS bike- i wouldnt know what's good or whats not so it's nice to see that real polo enthusiasts dig it. i actually dig what eighthinch does for polo, and it shows in their warranty of these things- if you break it, send the old one back with 5 bucks and you get another... forever. yeah! check out the comprehensive review here.

feb-review-ary: 170 eighthinch freestyle cranks

Photobucket
this one is going to be considerably shorter than the others solely based on the fact that these are a no-nonsense part.  i was previously running demolition medial 2.0's before this and because i'm a skid happy kid, i torque the crap out of cranks. combined with the fact that i run tires that like to grip and 48 splined bmx cranks have the majority of torque stress on the center/spindle, i've gone through a spindle or two. over time, the cranks became loose every 2 weeks which was really really frustrating. at SF bike expo, i hooked up with eighthinch and they gave me these 170mm freestyle cranks as a replacement. get the run down after the jump.

trackstand variations 2010 by burd

wow, has it really been 3 years since the first trackstand variations thing was made? i remember seeing the first one when i was first looking into getting in the fixed gear world. 3 years? REALLY? since then i've managed to win countless trackstand-offs in chico and well as one in sacramento (because it's the only thing i'm good at...). well now that bootleg sessions is done and accounted for, looks like Burd Phillips is back at it again. and i still cant do any of these things. i could do the forward through frame no handed without dismounting... i can do the reverse no handed (but i have to dismount)... i'm still amazed at burd's skills.

good stuff

transient medium hip bag review

(via transient)
i finally up and got me a hip pack. i scooped up the medium hip pack at iMD. i used to have to lug around my messenger bag everywhere just to take some tools with me. now with this hip pack, i dont have to. that pic up there is not a joke, you can fit all that stuff in there- and that's totally useful. the back can double as a ulock holster with a belt attatched to it:
specs:
Width: 8 1/2"
Height: 5"
Depth: 2"

inside, there's a divider that keeps stuff away from eachother, and it's made out of vinyl coated polyester. i really like it. however i did have to buy a belt for it (the transient belt was too big for my loops- i have to justify it being a hip bag over a fanny pack, of course).

in any case, i really like the hip pack, and i feel like there's no need for a bigger one. i like it. and i dont like a lot of things.

metal mondays: street machine of STTTTTEEEEL!

i was introduced to anthrax by accident. in one of the tony hawk pro skater games, there was the collabo with public enemy. naturally, i didnt know who i was listening to, nor did i really care. i was young and ignorant. in any case, i eventually looked it up and stumbled on anthrax. i immediately loved it. it wasnt wierd like those punk kids at school, it was heavy. it made you want to punch someone in the face. of course i moved on to heavier and heavier stuff (for example, right now im listening to job for a cowboy), but i always love to listen to some anthrax. now i know people will disagree, but im one of those people who thinks that joey belladonna was the best frontman of the band. i'll give you an example:

you cant go wrong with that. joey can still hit those nutzo notes. but when i look at that, i think "wow, anthrax is getting old.", "did joey really tuck in his shirt?", and "scott ian is getting younger and younger...." yeah, scott ian... i was both happy and wierded out see him on mtv and vh1. and now every time i think about anthrax, i think about scott ian. it's wierd. anyway, ladies and gentlemen: anthrax.

lance's air zoom tiempo.

lance and the nike crew released the air zoom tiempo a while back and theyre still turning heads. all that's availible is the city pack that includes massan, jupiter desphy, superted, and hal okada. i thought- well, lance reps austin pretty hard, so why doesnt he have a colorway? well, i dont have to wonder anymore:
LIVESTRONG x NIKE ZOOM TIEMPO - AUSTIN
MJ1.jpg
MJ2.jpg
MJ3.jpg
(via NSW)
im kinda disappointed. there's more to austin than lance's livestrong yellow and his shop. i feel like this doesnt give austin that "F*CK YEAH, AUSTIN" feel. in any case, theyre still sneakers i would buy. features include:
  • Juxtaposing soft premium oiled leather with aggressive anti-abrasive materials and black contrast stitching. The design is inspired by the two sides of Lance: The world’s greatest road cyclist and a man deeply connected with the culture of his sport.
  • “Texas” and “Austin” are boldly placed on the shoe heels. The stitches crossed on the words give an unfinished and rough touch.
  • Contrasting yellow and black sockliners build on the LIVESTRONG and Mellow Johnny’s bike shop theme.
  • The crafted STARKS laces with black aglets (tips) complement the refined, but aggressive, design.
they release this saturday, and the rest of the air zoom tiempos will see a release next month.

Laekhouse swag

laekhouse has some new swag:

first off, the "eddysane" shirt. 9 different faces of our favorite cyclist, with one sporting a ziggy stardust facepaint getup.

then there's "a day out". it's just a shirt with 2 bros (i hate that word) cold chillin' in a b boy stance.

this one's my favorite for some reason it reminds me of a nike ad.  i imagine a jordan I with 1985 under it... but i digress. i really like the bike on there. it has bullhorns and a pursuit geometry/shape (can we even call it geometry? there's no seat tube...)
(via laekhouse)

go check it out.

charge team bikes

New-scissor-set-upTrickster

pedalconsumption hooked juliet's bike up. now shes running the volume trickster, chicagowig straps, and starfuckers pedals. she's currently in portland where she is experiencing "bikeopolis":
"I managed to jump off a loading bay and ride straight into a truck one
day but other than that I'm not too battered and bruised thankfully! On
the way down to the river near Burnside there are a lot of railway
tracks which get super slippery and have taken out four of my friends
since I got here!
"

and she hates biscuits and gravy.

tom lamarche got himself some new digs. 40c tires (damn that thing barely clears), standard charge stuff, and the new sugino supermighty re-up. we havent seen much of lamarche, so hopefully we'll see him thrashing this setup soon.

(via prolly)
things wrong about this:
1) republic bike
2) clipless pedals on a bike that has regular pedals
3) colormatched bike
4) dude with a dressed in mtb gear on a fixed gear
5) brakes
6) questionable shaving

aw man, sf needs to step up! NORCAL! anyway, congrats to portland.

cyclope x veja fixed gear sneaker

(via prolly)
these sneakers are kinda iffy for me. dont get me wrong, i loves me some fixed gear focused sneaker, but something isnt right. yeah, it's simple. yeah it's classy. yeah its limited. but something's off. i think its the v logo. i also think it's the bottom sole. it would seem that there's absolutely no grip while walking in wet conditions. for some reason (i cant wrap my head around it) i dont really like this sneaker. i feel that there's nothing that sets it apart aside from the notion that its fixed gear specific. it's just blends in. i like it, just not enough. cyclope, can you send me a pair you you can sway my doubt? oh well.
