why so srs: francis roque

francis just sent this one over- kid is nonstop right now and i like it. i was watching this and seriously thought that the sf part shouldve been in ttv's effing creating it competition. the nose pivot down a step, and the 180 tire tap down a step shows that the kid's got hella control over his pedals. keep them coming homie!

polo, not yolo: 321 polo reviews the eighthinch polo pro mallet

(via 321polo)
whether you're an amateur or a seasoned pro, our fam at eighthinch makes it super easy to get into polo. the guys who run 321polo recently got their hands on eighthinch's pro mallets which have a bunch of different features over their other mallet head. i'm not a big polo player but i do have one of their mallets i use for when i want to smack around a polo ball on the FGFS bike- i wouldnt know what's good or whats not so it's nice to see that real polo enthusiasts dig it. i actually dig what eighthinch does for polo, and it shows in their warranty of these things- if you break it, send the old one back with 5 bucks and you get another... forever. yeah! check out the comprehensive review here.

coming soon: BHSK's redbull ride & style coverage preview

i've been busy jugging both editing the redbull photos and finishing off a couple papers for school- bear with me if it takes a while to do posts and to get my coverage up. i have priorities. anyway, i dropped some previews on the BHSK facebook but here's some after the jump if you missed it.

destroying seems like the best idea: daniel torres for destroy

(via colinb)
colin is basically the photographer out of the destroy camp, and he sent this one over before the weekend. he and daniel were at ride n style behind a camera and seeing both of them reminded me that i needed to post up. destroy's been selling the bars like hot cakes- people really dig the 4.666 rise. i got to see them up close and they look crazy good.

british invasion: oscar khan in SF

(via spike)
i'm way too hyped to see this guy this weekend. looks like mike and the crew at the grime are still filming shredwell 2 down to the last minute! oscar has been in the bay area for just a little bit, and ever since the dude landed he's been riding. if oscar isnt on your redbull "to see" list, then you need to get your stuff straight!

the kids are alright: 209 cogs sesh

209COGS: Bullshit sesh from Francis Roque on Vimeo.
right when i was stepping out the door to hang out with some friends, i get this email from francis roque of 209 cogs crew asking if i could post this up. these dudes are young but they're constantly riding- and it shows. this one has dawson, francis, tommy mao, james v, and james d. ripping the usual park. alleyoop 180 train was ill!

yes, that mezzanine: prolly at the minidrome

(via prolly)
john is definitely getting a leg up on the redbull weekend coverage. dude landed in SF like yesterday, and hit the ground running with coverage of what's happening around him. i suggest you keep posted. anyway, tonight is the qualification round for the minidrome (which is making it's west coast debut, i believe) at mezzanine. if you can go, i highly suggest it.

get hyped: red bull ride n style trailer

saturday saturday saturday!  red bull ride n style is about to pop off this weekend and it's going to be a good one. after a mishap with the printers in the BHSK x 1990vlns collabo, we're gonna be giving out some misprints at the comp. when life gives you lemons, you say SWAG. anyway, look for me in bullpen if you're lucky enough to head out there!

stateside: jruff's bb17 charmer

(via zlog)
you know that i'm not really into smaller wheels, but i've been really feeling everything that's been coming out of breakbrake17 and spike parts. jacob ruff recently got the new setup from them including spike's micro drive hub and bb17's charmer that has the crazy reinforced seat stays. the result is something that even a 29er faithful guy like me would like to try out...

jmik

that's a big bag: royal HC roll top proto

(via royal HC)
first off, i'm really into my royal HC cellphone pouch that i recently got- you'll get a rundown as soon as i get my camera back from san jose. anyway, it looks like our friends are expanding from straps and accessories into full on bags. is it just me or is this bag mad huge? looks like they're aiming for big bag fiends like me!

jmik

built: tokyo fixed DART

(via tokyo fixed)
a while back tokyo fixed dropped everything that was coming in their 2012 line. one of their frames that they're dropping is the DART which features a pretty tight yet could be ridden every day. with oversized tubing, this frame delivers little flex which means you can torque the crap out of it and it'll ask for more. looking at the wheelbase, i'm really feeling the geometry on this one. keep posted on tokyo fixed for more details.

jmik

another challenger apprears: frequnt flyr kama

(via freqnt flyr through PC)
it's been a good while since i've seen something from freqnt flyr. to be quite honest, i thought their mestizo bike was kinda cookie cutter. fortunately for me, it looks like they're finally expanding into some stuff i would ride. this is the kama, an aluminum track frame built in so cal with a pursuit style geo. if the production of this bike stays in the US and it proves to be something great to ride, i'm sure we'll see alot more of freqnt flyr.

jmik

kill 'em all: MWM3

(via unknown)
for a good while there were a bunch of random hashtag incedents on twitter involving #MWM3. back then, no one really knew what the fate of this event was. now we know the details- june 9th is the day. metallica, all the way. if you dont get the "up your ass" part, then i'm not sure if you belong there.

jmik

chop em down: cant fool the youth

Can't Fool The Youth: Fixed Gear Freestyle Video Magazine. from CHOP EM DOWN on Vimeo.
zane's a really cool dude and for a while i was bumping into the guy everywhere. his newest endeavor is a FGFS centric video magazine- i seriously could not see anyone better to do something like this. now this is only a preview, but judging by the upcoming things in the calendar, i think this is going to turn out to be one heavy project. i want to see more!

appreciation: andy ellis by johnny cupcakes

(via johnny cupcakes)
you know, i'm not even that big of a fan of johnny cupcakes, but i do still have the guy's blog on my RSS. recently johnny made his way to london to celebrate one of his store's anniversary and met up with andy. if you dont know who andy is, he's the founder of fixed gear london, the guy who started fixed mag, and the one who created 14 bike co's logo. i say it sloppy but johnny says it more eloquently. check it.

drive side out, literally: english cycles project right

(via english cycles
ive had the honor to see some english cycles creations at NAHBS earlier this year and one of  their builds that blew me away was their rigid 29er that weighed in at a little over 18 lbs. it was amazingly light, and i can attest to that having picked it up. then today i saw this on tracko, and it made an impression on me. i havent been a supported of  belt drive, but with the externally mounted belt drive, you dont need to sacrifice frame rigidity. you can see the rest of the build and story over here.

jmik

coming attractions: steven jensen at deck park

(via rec fail)
yes, i'm a little lagging right now mostly because i think i caught someone's cold. anyway, these photos that matt lingo took of the almighty steven jensen came out a while back and i never got around to posting them. actually these shots are still relevant because skylmt has been hinting on their facebook that the production frames are coming together. i'm just psyched to see steven again this weekend since one of my favorite shots from ride n style was of him doing a tailwhip:

a case study: 9 seconds with murda b!

Murder B: Pet It and Wet It from Wyler Bennett on Vimeo.
why is this not all over the place. i mean it's only 9 seconds long with only 2 runs, but it's an absolutely mind numbing experience. it has so much replay value that it's scary- 2 runs, so many questions. one footed nosey? is that possible? how does he not literally DIE going up them stairs? seriously. watch it. then watch it a million more times.

another #bigboywheelclique member: sol smith now officially on bb17

(via ninjacats)
focusing on another face from across the pond, sol smith of the ninjacats was just brought into the bb17 family. first, i like the "mask nothing, spray everything" vibe of the bike- seriously, i can imagine the dude getting trigger-happy with a rattlecan. secondly, can we commend breakbrake for supporting #bigboywheelclique? most companies wouldn't dare build a big boy wheeled setups, but it seems like they've really embraced it!

make it yours: chrome custom beta

(via chrome)
a while back chrome opened their doors to their factory in chico and i had the opportunity to go in and see the process. they were also offering to make custom one-off bags right then and there. i didn't have the funds at the time, but i thought it was a great idea. while snooping around their website i found this- looks like they're trying it out with a beta customizer in their webstore. now you can get your citizen in crazy colors. pretty cool if you ask me, and i hope this catches on into their other bags- how sick would it be to have a custom ivan?!

artsy: chrome lil tuffy series

(portland)

(austin)

(minneapolis via chrome)
i kinda missed the shot on this one, which is surprising to me since 1) i have an undying love for messenger bags, and 2) i've been a fan of lil tuffy for a good while. the sf based artist recently teamed up with the SF based purveyor of bags on a collection of citizens with depictions of portland, oregon, minneapolis, minnesota and austin, texas. limited to 200 per piece, these wont last very long- especially that portland one, boy. thing looks ill. you can get a better idea of lil tuffy's life and times in this interview as well.

jmik

and friends: woodward west

WOODWARD WEST from jakob santos on Vimeo.
looks like our buds congo, joe, the president, jakob and matt lingo made their way to woodward west again to get some practice in for next week. this is really giving a good idea of how difficult it'll be to judge ride n style next weekend. i, like most, have only seen one obstacle, and watching this tells me that everyone can bring alot of variation to the table. it's gonna be a crazy weekend.

jmik

motion: ippe for team kagero

(via pedal consumption)
the leader kagero is one of those frames that simply looks fast even when standing still. ippe of cyclonesia is one of the few to own the frameset, and it looks like he recently got himself the blaq x kagero rolltop bag. these things look way bigger than i thought they were.

jmik

quite possibly the greatest t-shirt ever: prolly is not sheldon brown

(via bike jerks)
the people at bike jerks have a different kind of humor. when i saw that these were going to be produced, i knew that these were going to be super great. not sure if these are prolly approved, but they do fit the hatchet guidelines. 19 bucks gets you one here, but get one now because they only made 40.

BOSS-CAR KHAN: oscar khan by wheeltalk

(via wheeltalk)
the man of the day is oscar khan. matt reyes was in san jose welcoming the brit to california since he's in town for red bull ride n style. i haven't been back home for a couple of weeks, and i'm definitely excited to see my homie in my home town as well as the event in the city. is it just me or is oscar's front a little flat?

jmik

#bigboywheelclique, now with jetpacks: oscar khan for bb17

Ninjacats: Oscar Khan welcome to Breakbrake 17 and Spike parts from Ninja Cats on Vimeo.
so this dropped and i couldn't be more hyped. oscar (aka 'BOSS'CAR) khan is one of those dudes who not only pushes the line, he magically makes that line a three dimensional figure and explodes it with alien powers. he's a member of BHSK's #bigboywheelclique repping 29ers, and he would like you to know that "no barspin toe overlap or punctures occured during the making of this film." that bb17 serpent is starting to look like a really good contender in the scare but still existing 29er FGFS market. if you know what is good for you, you need to watch this one.

hell yeah ninjacats, hell yeah bb17, hell yeah spike parts, hell yeah oscar.

they mysterious land of toronto, canada: GTAF #2

GTAF#2: Greater Toronto Area Fixed 2 from Tom Mosher on Vimeo.
yes, i made a scott pilgrim reference- i'm an absolute nerd. anyways, looks like tom mosher found the time to get some riding in- i mean he's been really busy with ynot, so we cant be mad at that! in this one he teams up with jackson wallace for a wild ride around toronto spots. it's always good to see something from tom pop up- i remember posting about when he put pegs on his bike from wayyyy back!

peter pettigrew: BOY by Prasanna Puwanarajah

sometimes the best things are suggested by readers- this one comes from craig, some dude on the east coast. "boy" is a short film inspired by the 2012 olympic and paralympic games in london and it features timothy spall (peter pettigrew from the hary potter movies, winston curchill from the kings speech). what's cool is that it will be shown on british airways flights into london for the olympic games- pretty cool to see that track cycling is being the focus. watch  this one, it's really moving.

#bigboywheelclique not dying: CHU by k birdie

CHU is not dying but HEA from K Birdie on Vimeo.
when it's in black and white, glitching out, it's gotta be good or something. k birdie of machete bikes just picked up a new rider by the name of CHU, who also rides for bb17. that first one was serious! does that count as a truck? the bottom line is CHU's got hella bike control and he's reppin' the #bigboywheelclique.

rituals of the agricultural holiday: burro bags april 20th special

(via burro)
our friends at burro are no stranger to the tree and are also celebrating the agricultural holiday with a sale. last year they had a huge sale, this year they're doing the same but a little differently. if you spend $50 of more, you get this shirt. also, just for today, the chronic straps are discounted! get the details over here!

jmik

vikings and stuff: prolly "raidô" shirt and hold fast

(via prolly)
king of the fixed gear blogopshere and twitter philosopher, john prolly has some new stuff for us coinciding with some agricultural holiday today. if you're wondering what "raidô" is, it means "ride, journey". today he released the raidô viking shirt and a special pair of hold fasts that have a similar pattern and the new feature of a stash pocket. you can get both of them here.

the wait: shredwell 2 promo

SHREDWELLTWO PROMO from GRIME BIKES on Vimeo.
i've been up studying for a test and apparently it's some sort of holiday in the agricultural field. to celebrate, our friends at the grime released another promotion for shredwell 2. yes, shredwell 2 is being hyped to death but the cast is super good. we're talking about schmitt, devon, wonka, young gabe, rico lino, ant, and hammy. 1 more week folks. 1 more week.

fix up, look sharp: sea town fix up 2

Sea Town Fix Up (#2) from ZLOG on Vimeo.
it looks like there's a different group of west coast people to watch besides san jose and LBC crews. seattle is home to kareem, CSK, ZLOG and the homie FOAD's jackson bradshaw. that's alot of acronyms for a city. in any case, the ride in this one is pretty raw and it's always nice to see another place besides the usual stuff in california.

meanwhile in japan: stussy x W-line

last month, the collaboration between streetwear giant stussy and japan's wline distro (responsible for wbase, durcus one, and how i roll). okay, i'm down with all the retro bmx stuff, i'm down with the cinematography and the whole vibe of the vid- but for almost $1200, you would think that wline would throw a 3 pc crankset and have the frame run a modern bottom bracket of sorts.

jmik

closer: t level x stbg.

(via pedal consumption)
last week we got a little preview of the collaboration between sbtg and korean purveyors of luggage, tlevel.  now we have a little clearer picture of what's going to be a part of the collection. as a bag nerd, i'm a geek to materials and functionality, and i'm really diggin these- especially since they teamed up with what i believe to be an underrated. you can check out the rest of the collection over at wherehouse.

jmik

the life and times: KVLT KLIPS XII

i get bummed when i see stuff like this pop up and i'm in class where i cant post up. we've been posting up kvlt kips for a long time, and though i'm sounded like a broken record- it's agreed that this is probably the best (if not, the best) series of edits in FGFS. every time, it's something different, but every time it's done in wolfdrawn style. what really got me into this was the presence of mike dinh on this one- dude's been slept on for too long, someone needs to pick that kid up. in any case, press play and take it all in.

united states of bangerton: iminusd rides SF

iMiNUSD RIDES SF 2012 from iMiNUSD on Vimeo.
terrence of the heavy pedal described this as "bangerville". right when you hear the song, you know some crazy stuff's gonna go on. this is killer stuff from devon, jeff diesel, matt montoya, slumworm, forrest and blanco. 1:25, so slick. :23, so threaded. 1:32, so clean. 1:48 soooooooo mind blowing. the replay value is high on this one.

jmik

poppa prolly: flag hatchet tees

(via prolly)
john likes to mess around with me from time to time (he calls me prolly jr. and other things that cant be mentioned on this post) but i have mad respect for the guy. he's all about the american made stuff hence the rise of the flag hatchet logo. you can scoop one up for $25 shipped in the USA. gotta gets me one.

tagged title: LBC SJ DIY

LBC SJ DIY from jakob santos on Vimeo.
this diy spot is getting alot of love, and i can see why- it caters well to FGFS riding. anyway, jakob upped this today and it features some riding by him, antonyo, and devon lawson. you can really see the differences in each rider: antonyo's tech is low and fast, devon short part is a huge launch, and jakob kinda encompasses both. oh, i'm a sucker for doubles runs.

the brutal lands: image hunters

(via 5thfloor)
as i was going through my rounds i felt compelled to post these 2 photos that really caught my eye off of 5th floor. these were taken by martjin and guen of image hunters, and they chronicled gjis and sammi's (of pristine) tour of the norwegian's brutally beautiful looking landscape. i wish i could take photos like this.

fam: destroy masochist and 4.666 bar preorder

(via destroy)
my family at destroy has been putting in work for the past few weeks and today they announce the start of their presale of their iconic masochist frame as well as their newest addition- the 4.666 bars which boasts a 4.666" rise has an option for a drilled out cross bar (AKA holy bar over the undrilled unholy bar). looks like they've expanded the color options with a trans yellow and trans (san jose shark) teal. get to it.

second coming: starf*ckers steel era

(via starf*ckers japan)
a long long time ago at the genesis of fixed freestyle, there was a company based out of japan that was making star shaped frames reminiscent to MTB's made in th 80's and 90's called starfucker japan. it was the xenon, and it was strange, but it kinda paved the way for the FGFS. well starfuckers is back with a new frame dubbed the "steel era"- you're not tripping, these are indeed the same frame. this is a frame that has track dropouts and a derailleur hanger, paired with 130 mm spacing. yes, it's strange, but it's multi-configurable to the point where it's a tad silly.

nah, it's just strange.

parking lot pimpin: future tense april 2012

Zlogblog - Future Tense April 2012 from Tanner Wendell Stewart on Vimeo.
i seriously want to go to seattle one day to hang around for future tense. this one was major because it was sponsored by the likes of contour, fsa and leader. i'm not sure if i'm reading this correct but felix dol (geometrick felix dol? probably not, but that's what it says) won the sprints and walked away with a contour roam. oh and tyler jumps the redbull (not picture, but proof here) mini and a BLAZE OF FIRE.

a little rant: red bull ride n style list released

(via fixed freestyle)
looks like fixed freestyle got a hold of the riders list in terms of FGFS:

"Alex Blanco, Anthony Combs, Antonyo Wothe, Christian Hamrick, Corey San Agustin, Devon Lawson, Ed “Wonka” Laforte, Elliott Millner, Gus Molina, Hiro Nakajima, Jakob Santos, Jamil Gray, Jeff Dempler, Joe McKeag, Jonathan Davis, Jonah Kessel, Josh Boothby, Justin “Congo” Mitchell, Kenny Arimoto, Marco, Matt Montoya, Matt Reyes, Matt Spencer, Michael Chacon, Mike Schmitt, Miles Mathia, Nick Ramirez, Oscar Kahn, Simon “Gomok” Andraca, Steven Jensen, and Tyler Johnson"

now, i have no issue with any of these riders on this list but what i do have an issue with is the fact that the majority of these riders are either so cal or san jose california based and sponsored for the most part. there have been a good amount of people coming up from other places since the last ride n style and this lineup doesn't look like it took that into consideration. i don't disagree with the list, just thought it would be more expanded. other than that, i'm still going to be there and i'm hyped on the minidrome. anyone else want to chime in on the list?

jmik

sam jackson five: jonah kessel for sadio

Jonah Kessel + SADIO from Matt Reyes on Vimeo.
matt reyes knows how to edit a video and i just want to commend him for his choice of music - it's constantly good and i really love this song by the samuel jackson five. but that's not what this is about. 14 year old jonah kessel just got picked up by sadio to be on their am team and to commemorate that, he made his way up to san jose and san francisco to film. you kinda forget that thing dude is super young because his riding is so huge. get to watching.

jmik

spring or something: francis roque march/april

Francis Roque March/April 2012 from Francis Roque on Vimeo.
ever since francis roque won that pfix from wheeltalk, he's been non stop on that thing. as you can see, it's in the right hands and being put to work. there are a lot of solid lines in this one but there was one line that really impressed me: at :35, dude does a nose bonk, 270 keo to a feeble stall. the timing is absolutely incredible and it emcompasses both bmx style tricks and fixed specific tricks. we need more of that.

jmik

family affair: the madarangs

the madarang brothers are james and jordan madarang and both dudes are talented. if you cant tell who is who since the tricks are mostly flatland- james has a white helmet, and jordan sports the black one. after my little rant about BMX tricks and fixed specific tricks, i feel like this is a good example of that. i know that james is more of theat flatland style, and jordan is pretty good at both styles. i really hope we see more from these guys.

casey veggies: jamil gray april edit

here's another one for the #bigboywheelclique. i feel like we dont see much of the homie jamil gray, and that's partly because he's got a good hustle going for him. if you didnt know, he's the man behind the established. anyway, his style is so refined that you can tell there's no half steppin'; the 3's are spot on and not overturned or underturned, and he catches his bars. seriously, we need more jamil.

ready for the drop: upcoming BB17 and spike parts

(all via bb17's flickr)
breakbrake 17 and spike parts come from the same camp so naturally they both had a preview of whats to come from them at the same time. let's get the big one out of the way- this is the v2 charmer and right off the bat they started using butted seamless japanese 4130 cro-mo with heat treated BB, head tube, drop outs and rear triangle. also they've added these strange looking but highly functional reinforced seat stays. i think the geometry looks pretty sharp without being too low profile, and the new logos on the downtube look spiffy too.

moving on the the new parts from spike we have the updated 2pc hi bars. then we have the 27 tooth Y6 sprocket. now if you're sitting there thinking "why such a low tooth count?", your answer lies in the "vault" 10 tooth microdrive hub. i feel like we're going to see alot more of microdrive stuff in the upcoming months.

jmik
