(via cityaffe) in chico, it's virtually impossible to be straight edge. i recall last year when i wore my diamond supply tee, some dude misread it as a diamond cut tee. i laugh about it now because when i used to skate i had the old school diamond hardware before they got into streetwear. regardless, i like this pic. it's proper with the bullhorns and the bladed fork, even the tattoos. i like it.
so yesterday i sold the leader that was on my hands for a little too long. it's not like i dont like leaders, quite the opposite- i saw a 729 and a 722 in person for the first time and i'm quite impressed. i expected the TRK to be impressively thick and cumbersome, but it was actually really thin and changed my perspective. however, i'm digressing so much that i'm starting to forget the basis of this post.
since the leader had half of the parts i used on my regular bike, i was down, well, half a bike. after much deliberation trying to figure out what direction my bike should be going, i opted on getting a tree lite sprocket to get things moving. my initial reaction was "this thing looks heavy", but it really isnt. in fact it's lighter than the other sprocket fixed gear bmx crank setups use, the profile imperial. dont let the weight fool you though, it's thick and well machined from 7075 T6 aluminum. what i like about the tree lite is the tooth count. if you know me well, and as you can tell by the name of this blog, i like going fast. bmx sprockets usually do not come in large tooth counts (aside from the previously stated profile imperial), so at 39 teeth, i dont lose alot- i just have to run a smaller cog. the highlight of this chainwheel is the splined drive. though i do not have cranks just yet, a colleague of mine slapped them on with the usual demolition medial 2.0's everyone's running nowadays. the thing doesn't budge when it's on the spindle. you would think when you throw this thing through a hard skip stop the sprocket would fail, but no- this thing is solid.
now all i have to do is order my 170mm eclat tibia cranks and i will be on my way (unless someone has some medials they want to sell me). shouts to eric from the east side for buying my leader, and thanks to the dudes down in iminusd. like always, if you happen to be in the downtown san jose area, stop by and take a look.
that, and la vic's around the corner. mmmmm orange sauce.
(via paul) a few days ago my buddy ted shred got a brand spanking new paul royal flush road crank. now i'm not sure if it was one with the new "improvements" but what was special about it was that it had a red anodized chainring. paul components usually doesnt do that O_O
"The new bolts have hexalobular internal driving features (they're Torx bolts), and thread deeper into the reinforced crank arm."
(via BMW) at 1140 grams, BMW's clusterfork isnt the lightest thing in the world, but girth never hurt no one. not many details on this except for the weight but a new addtion to the fork is the tapered ends. toe hang noses, anyone? (via PC) “We got these finalized Thrasher fork samples in last week. Super stoked on the way they came out. Should see em the same time as the Thrasher frames (no date as of yet). We'll keep you guys posted on an E.T.A. as soon as we find out.”- volume
looks like volume is going the tapered route as well. in addition it has a built in crown race. well, i think that's what that is? someone clarify please.
all these tapered end forks remind me....SE NEEDS TO RELEASE THEIR 700c LANDING GEAR NOW.
(via zibaspace, dustin) hmmm, is this a part of the cadence x dvs collection? keo gets his own sneaker? no even a colorway, a SNEAKER. i've never seen a mid top milan vulc... i like it. (via cadence) oh and here they are in action. AWEEEESOMME. i have a feeling that keo is going to be popping up more and more and more. i'm not complaining, keo is an innovator. if there is more to the dvs x cadence collection...
this looks like a ball of fun: beer, blood, glory, takk bikes, an early model beetle, double dutch, bike limbo, bike bowling, jumping into a lake on a sketchy tranny, and DUCT TAPE!!
(via Dan Arel) the leader trk gets a new generation to it's name with the version 2. i'm not sure what the new additions and changes are aside from the EPIC BRACE that makes the TRK a TRK. i only see the decals being new... regardless it's good lookin'
(via gorilla) for 99 us bones, you can have the "pre-killroy" fork. it's 405 mm high, and uses a 35 deg rake (wait, did i just say that right? someone correct me). only 20 were made available so get on it. please note that these are NOT the production killroy fork! you have another month to wait for that one.
i think this is a whole bunch of awesome. ted was in NYC the other night- it's his first time stateside because 14 bikeco sent him for NAHBS. prolls took the dude out for some pizza and beer: ted's ESB is teh shiiiiiit! you dont understand, rustbikes tickle my fancy soooooo much. i want to do that to the bruiser i'm going to....oh.... i think i said too much. (via purp) i cant wait to see all the hit that goes down during the Rivercity trackjam. it's going to be siiiiiiiick. one of these day's when i have some money to spend i want to sponsor an event like that. true story. Ted and John, say what's up to everybody in RVA for me!
free... fixed (via bike jerks) this is the affix fixed/free hub. similar to the torpedo hub, instead of using a screw to make the hub fixed, this utilizes a simpler (but weirder looking) mechanism. simply push and turn and ta-da it's fixed. now, i seriously think that there's not much use in this because you either want to run entirely fixed or entirely free. i spoke to ted shred about the functionality of the torpedo hub and he told me he liked the idea of switching on the fly. anyway, it looks....meh... i'm not sure i like that big flange wheel thing where you adjust the fixed/free function. you could see it here.
oh and did i mention it's from khe (well technically the sister company)? the shop i frequent is a KHE dealer so i'll have the bossman look into it.
(seen on PC) this is one of the best schemes to get you into the gym i have ever seen. metal monday? thrashin' thursday? sounds like an opportunity to get drunk and ride an exercise bike to the sounds of the dead kennedy's and anvil. and the mediator's name happens to fit nicely. are you ready for THE HURRICANE AKA MS. HURRICANEEEEEEEE!?!?!?! (ha, chuckled to myself a little bit) Breathe from denver, CO's got it on lock. bravo breathe, bra-vo.
(via...here.) okay let's get the technical stuff out of the way. it's a 25.4 mm straight bar made from acrylic fibers. now for the criticisms. this is a dildo bar. i dont car what you say, this is a dildo bar. alot of bars that are round capped at the end i call dildo bars but this... this is a dildo bar. i know i could reference those ridiculous and tall jewel JDM shift knobs but no.. this is a dildo bar. criticise me all you want, but this is...cool in theory but in application it's not very cool.
that slo-mo intro looked like a normal speed run. after that, the whole thing looks lie it's going in fast forward. reality is, dude is that fast. i dont think ive seen taps that fast. at 105 he almost takes out the cameraman. eff that dude, if i were that cameraman, i would almost shit my pants. good stuff coming from overseas.
if you didnt know, aaron from Hipster Nascar is going to NAHBS in richmond this weekend here's the bars that are going on his entry: (via hipsternascar) basically theyre modded cinelli track bars that utilize a brazed insert making them a little more ergo. looks pretty sick, cant wait to see the outcome. good luck to aaron and six eleven @NAHBS. if youre going, check them out here.
(via freshness)
outlier is a high end clothing company centered around urban cycling. i'm a fan, but unfortunately i run on a student budget and therefore cannot afford their clothes. regardless i still am a fan. freshness mag recently did an interview with Tyler and Abe, the founders of outlier, which is very informative. the cuts and technology using fabric is quite interesting. read it.
(via CVF) DJ Mull is one of the heavy hitters of so cal. though he's only been riding fixed for about 8 months, he's an avid BMX rider: it's amazing how this dude came into focus within a matter of months in the fixed gear realm. go read the interview here!
