the thing about the shift to 14mm hubs is 1)current options are expensive (think: profile), 2)not everyone's bike can currently accomodate 14mm. so for the time being (until frames are made /w 14mm dropouts, slotted axles are a good middle ground. RYD is coming out with a slotted 14mm fixed hubset with heat treated axles and 36h. combine this with a velocity chukker and you have a wheelset that wont scream for new axles every so often. keep posted at RYD to see a release date.
