now that i'm plopped in front of this computer, what's the first on the agenda? well let's take a minute and catch up with the bombtrack familia, shall we?
The DASH 2015 from WeMakeThings on Vimeo.
now i'm sure just about everyone who frequents this blog has seen this one on the internets. low and behold, this is a wolfdrawn joint disguised as a teaser for the bombtrack dash. and you should already know about the dash as well as the guy at the helm, elliot milner. so we wont really get into it. just sit there and enjoy it.
The SCRIPT 2015 from WeMakeThings on Vimeo.
now this fucker i want in my stable immediately. the script is bombtrack's aluminum track monster. it's sexy as fuck. tapered head tube, sram omni-nomnomnoms, a female axle front wheel with buttery smoothed out welds all over makes me want to take this thing out to dinner and kiss it goodnight.
to say i want this one is an understatement.
The NEEDLE 2015 from WeMakeThings on Vimeo.
actually no, i want this one in my stable. if the script is the sexy one that flirts with you all the time, then the needle is the one that keeps it real. this one is all new for 2015, and it's right up my alley with the reynolds 725 tubing- yep. it's fucking steel. and all of it is steel right down to that 5 piece fork. it's the blue collar beast and it even has a place where you can put that chris king headset you've been sitting on for ages.
The ARISE 2015 from WeMakeThings on Vimeo.
still staying within the singlespeed realm, bombtrack brings us the arise. this one we've seen photos of before but not much else. another steel offering, this one ventures off into the wild as a SSCX bike. but it's not so simple. you see, this one has a derailleur hanger, removable cable tabs, a built in singlespeed chain tensioner..... hell the thing has rack mounts if you really want to get into it.
The HOOK 2015 from WeMakeThings on Vimeo.
this is the part where things get rad. the hook is a full on cyclocross bike. it's a straight up, built to fucking kill, cyclocross bike- and a damn good one too. we're talking sram rival, avid discs, mavic wheels, all strapped to (wait for it) columbus tubing. holy fuck. i was gonna type something witty and funny here but all that comes to mind is "holy fuck that's built ass bike"
The OXBRIDGE WOMEN 2015 from WeMakeThings on Vimeo.
The OXBRIDGE MEN 2015 from WeMakeThings on Vimeo.
and now for something completely different. the oxbridge is bombtrack's mild mannered city bike. we're talking, full fenders, box rims, gum wall tires, and everything old school. oh and ladies? you got a version of the oxbridge as well.
two bikes that haven't seen video treatment yet are the divide and zone. the divide is the "old school" 700c FGFS on which bombtrack is recognized for, and the zone is an urban super commuter that features a shimano internally geared hub.
it's crazy to see how much the bombtrack fam has grown in a matter of a few years. they may have a few more in the garage but the focus has still remained as their offerings have the common thread of being badass rides with top shelf stuff installed.

squad: red bull steep crest
a while back the folks at red bull tested an event to be known as steep crest. the formula was simple: here's a hill, now mob down it as fast as you can. seems simple enough but then again, they happened to choose a san francisco hill. if you dont know how intense that is, look that shit up because that shit is daunting as fuck. that being said, our sole team member alex gonzalez made it out on top in the track bike division. FUCK YEAH.
SQAAAAAD.

ol' shit clips 2012-2014 from 3b's Krew on Vimeo.
meanwhile in SLC, the fam jake has been killing it on the streets. he's an avid follower of the blog and here he's collected a bunch of clips of his riding- some smashing through traffic, some boulevard bombing, all fast shit. so much shit is happening out in slc, i really need to make my way down there!

the new stuff: leader revamps the 735 and 721

(via leader)
leader has been constantly improving their track bikes and in 2015, they've put some more goodies into their flagship 725 and 735. one of the main points that sticks out would be the new 2 bolt seat clamp system which looks snazzy as fuck. then the 735 differentiates itself from the 725 with the seat stays kicking up towards the top tube/seat tube cluster. you dont have to wait til next year to get them, you can check it out now over at leader!

the neighbors: alvin's beautiful day
Alvin's Beautiful Day from The Sleepers on Vimeo.
CBNC is no stranger to cycling, and neither is the homie alvin. CBNC finally has a kit available in conjunction with endo cycling, and it's based on stuff CBNC already makes (the stars button up and the rain camo shorts). it's pretty awesome. give them your money.

the only team member: alex gonzalez x breakbrake17 by matt reyes
Alex Gonzalez + BreakBrake17 from Matt Reyes on Vimeo.
you may be tired of hearing this but alex gonzalez is one of the most down ass dudes in the game right now. yungfixie is stupid fast and has no remorse about it. that's why even though BHSK isn't fucking huge, we do our best to support this guy however we can (hence the ongoing joke/nonjoke of alex being the only team member). hell, the guy is going to interbike under the BHSK name.

i'm a bag whore: mashsf x boreas

(via mashsf)
i've been in a really big technical stuff mood as of late, and since i deal with technical packs and stuff almost daily, i'm very familiar with boreas. i've actually tried some of boreas' packs and they're silly light and have super clean lines (which is crazy difficult to do with a technical pack). so you could imagine the excitement i had when these popped into my feed. the dudes over at mashsf have been putting the parallax imagery on just about everything and who could blame them? that frameset is hella sexy and is a technical beast, so i find it fitting that the theme flows onto some boreas stuff. you can check both packs out here.

our friends do rad shit: sean martin for the heavy pedal
Sean Martin x Zephyr Track from The Heavy Pedal on Vimeo.
all this off time has really got me messed up with the blog, but when i saw this pop up i had to post it. sean martin is one of the most hard working fixiefucks i know, and when he's not in front of a glowing screen blogging on TOLA, he's crushing it on his heavy pedal zephyr. not only is he hard working, he's mental. that last clip had me clenching butthole. yeah dude, that'a fucking close call.

lost in the woods: unknown bike co has gone camo crazy

(via UBC)
our friends at unknown share a strange little obsession over camouflage with us. today they dropped their mossy oak 5 panel hat and while i browsing about i came across the camo LVX frame. that's some ill shit considering how my last few purchases have be army camo or woodland camo oriented...

our familia at godandfamous are really consistent with the updates and they just dropped me a line over their newest stuff. dropping tomorrow, they went with the theme of digging deep which riffs n their paincave theme they came out with not too long ago. embedded with simple and bold imagery, this is some dope stuff coming out of new york. you can pick them up over at godandfamous.

six years and only one decent idea: an apology and some BHSK project introduction

i started this blog in a dorm room in 2008. i really didn't see this more than a chronicling of crap that i do day to day since at the time i moved to a new city knowing no one. it's 2014 now and a whole lot has changed during that amount of time- including BHSK. initially this was supposed to highlight full on track bikes on the street but with the rise of FGFS, it's become more of an FGFS blog with a small track bike fetish when no one is looking.

how the fuck did that happen? that's what i'm going to try and find out. there's been so many things that have influenced me as a blogger/rider/photo dude and i want to kind of shine a light on these people and places. with the fixed gear culture basically being dumbed down and diluted to shitty cookie cutter bikes which the general public deems as a colorful, inconvenient nuisance, i want to bring up some original shit and backtrack to why this thing became a worldwide phenomenon. i mean think about it: there are some people, companies, bikes and places out there that have brought the track bike/fixed gear/fgfs bike to where it is today. this is a huge undertaking that i have no clue how i'm going to fund, plan or do, but i'm going to try and work my ass off to do it.

i'm also going to redo the site because it's looked like this for a really long time and i'm kind of getting sick of how shitty and ratty it looks compared to the other homies' blogs. i mean come on.... i havent changed ths layout since...... 2010? 2011? damn i've been doing this shit for way too long.

forgive me for being away from the keyboard for such a long time, but i really needed this space to think and stuff.

(via eighthinch)
our friends over at eighthinch have been making moves as of recently, and they've put out their newest offering, the dispatch. what sets this one apart is the fact that it's made here in the US out of true temper 4130. paired with a tange prestige fork, this is going to be a light, strong and nimble. you can see more here.

my computer, the space heater: BHSK @ redbull ride n style 2014
BHSK @ redbull ride n style 2014 from BHSK_cogblog on Vimeo.
i'll have a more comprehensive post later. i've been having conversion nightmares with the clips, but i finally got that shit down in record time. this is a little bit of what i got from the redbull event last weekend. i had a hell of a time with the homies even though i was out there getting sunburnt and windburned. hope you like it.

i once cried: dylan buffington for mashsf
DYLAN BUFFINGTON from MASH TRANSIT PRODUCTIONS on Vimeo.
let me tell you a little story. one time i got lost driving in sf. i found myself driving up this hill which had stoplights everywhere. my car is stick. it was fucking terrible, literally fuckin screamed every time i caught a red. the hill dylan bombs is that damn hill. but dylan is going down that hill on a histogram cinelli. he's insane. who does a fish n chips, rolls down unclipped and then clips in going FULL FUCKING SPEED.
literally screamed throughout the whole vid.

synced: vans x leader "V735" by matt lingo

(via rec fail)
matt lingo got together with leader's mike chacon to get some closer shots of the vans x leader collaboration 735 and shoes. i'm always on the fence when a big corporation tries to get in on "fixie money" but this one was well executed, and vans has had it's foot (hey-ooooo) in the door of fixed gear for years now. i think the end result is clean and not forced. they also chose a great medium too- a 735. you could see more of matt's amazing shots here!

the setup: vans x leader bikes
LEADER BIKES x VANS 2014 S/S COLLABORATION COLLECTION - Teaser Trailer from BROTURES on Vimeo.
i woke up and glanced through my instagram feed (like a normal person should) and came across this short one with vans crossing over onto a leader 735. i'm not a big fan of collaborations, but considering that vans does have a pretty decent track record of good bike collaborations (i.e with charge bikes and cult bmx and shadow conspiracy) this could be a good one. i'm still on the fence, but you can judge for yourself.

achtung, bro: hardbreakers @ berlin fixed days
LAST MAN STANDING - Berlin Fixed Days 2014 from Hardbrakers on Vimeo.
i cant tell you how rad this event looks. the premise is simple: take a go kart track, put some track bikes on it, party til you puke. my familia known as the hardbreakers went out to berlin to try their hand at this epic race. my goodness, i want to party with these dudes.

like old times: jason clary for state bicycle co
State Bicycle Co. - Jason Clary - Undefeated SF from State Bicycle Co. on Vimeo.
with ride n style coming up, we should remember that jason is indeed the winner of the last one. state bicycle co has been backing him for a while now as he's been riding their undefeated frameset for that duration. he got in touch with macaframa's colin arlen to film this one (it's hella maca-esque) where he basically tears through san francisco. i'm still trying to wrap my head around the part where he nose mannys the median at a silly speed.

checking in: phil visits LDG

(via lockedcog)
phillip arellano been writing for lockedcog for a while and he's been providing a ton of original stuff (which is refreshing) for the blog. recently he went to visit johnny coward and the dudes over at LDG in huntington beach. there's a whole lot stirring around in that shopfront (though it's been laying in the background for a minute). you should give it a read!

the contrast: back to origins
Back to Origins from Stefaniya Gutovska on Vimeo.
so i stumbled upon this one, and i kinda dig the vibes. i think this is something we could all kind of relate to considering that the reason why a good amount of us are here is because of taking track bikes where they shouldnt be. yeah, this thing could be seen as a little artsy fartsy and preachy, and yeah the bikes may not be ravaging race machines, but fuck it- i dig it. hoodlum bikes with stickers plastered all over them really put a sharp contrast to the surrounding nature, which is rad. maybe you'll like it too.
